Sarah Koenig Obituary

MURPHYSBORO - Sarah Eva Koenig, 82, passed away Saturday evening, Oct. 5, 2013, in St. John's Hospital in Nassau Bay, Texas.

Sarah was born June 19, 1931, in Memphis, Tenn., to Floyd Edgar "Ted" McDaniel and Sarah Ann (Carter) McDaniel.

She was a school teacher, starting out in a one room school house and later retiring teaching sixth grade.

Mrs. Koenig was a member of Mount Carbon Christian Church in Murphysboro. She was a Friend of Sallie Logan Library, a member of the Business and Professional Women's Foundation, and was a former member of the Rebekah's.

Sarah married Gilbert Ray Koenig on June 2, 1956, in Murphysboro, and he preceded her in death Jan. 3, 2013.

She is survived by two daughters, Luann Ostrom, and her husband, Carl Ostrom, of Seabrook, Texas, and Karla Koenig of Moweaqua; one sister, Mary Lou Hughes of Murphysboro; two sisters-in-law, Patsy Jo (Koenig) Varner and her husband, Ken Varner, and Darlene (Ellis) Porter and her husband, Mike Porter; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Pettett Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary Darnell officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and until 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Sallie Logan Library.

What a dear, sweet lady Mrs. Koenig was when she taught me at Mc Elvain School, always loved her so very much..blessings to the entire family in this time of loss and home going.
