Steve Catalano Obituary

Steve Catalano

Steve Catalano, 81, passed away at the Village at St. Edward surrounded by his family on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.

Born in Akron on Feb. 16, 1927, Steve graduated from Hower Vocational High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Shirley Saurer in 1966, and they raised their four children in Copley. Steve was a caring and generous man who had a great love for family and friends. Cooking was his specialty, and he was known for his pasta, meatballs, and pizza. On Sunday afternoons after a family pasta dinner, you could always find him watching the Browns, Indians, or PGA golf. Working was Steve's passion. He was co-owner of Regina's Pizza in Kenmore since 1970. He and his best friend Louie created the original recipes that are still loved today. In addition to running his business, he enjoyed working as a car salesman and many times earned the title "Salesman of the Month."

Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley. He is survived by his four children, Amy (Rich) Siebert, Gina (Chris) Cain, Stephen (Mindy) Catalano and Robert (Jen) Catalano; grandchildren, Grant and Ryan Siebert, Emily and Matthew Cain, Stephen and Dominic Catalano and Louie Catalano; many nephews and nieces including his very special niece, Terry (Doug) Herbert. He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Grace; sisters, Pauline Lucido and Josephine DeJohn; brother, Tony Catalano; and best friend, Louie Bamonte.

Special thanks are extended to the staff of the Village at St. Edward for the wonderful care that was given to Steve.

Friends may call TODAY from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Ciriello and Carr Fairlawn Chapel (39 S. Miller Rd.). Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, 10 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church. Interment at Copley Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to: The Steve and Shirley Catalano Scholarship Fund payable to Copley Schools Foundation, 3797 Ridgewood Rd., Copley, Ohio 44321.

Dear Catalano Family,
My family and I offer our deepest sympathies for the loss of Uncle Steve. He was a man with a friendly smile, a generous heart, and a great sense of humor.
When I met him and Aunt Shirley in Port Clinton many years ago (I was there with Scott, Doug, & Terry on vacation) they both, without reservation, treated me the same as every other family member who was there. I will always remember their generosity and genuineness (and the awesome pasta dinners that they made!).
God Bless Uncle Steve, Aunt Shirley, and the whole Catalano Family!

Always Your Ms. Sturkey, Copley Schools/OhioKiwanis

Rob and Family,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family at this most difficult time. An old Russian proverb states simply that "we live as long as we are remembered".
Your dad will continue to live on for many years to come as you all recall and share family stories.

Your folks provided the Loyal Oak Lake Park gatehouse guys with great pizza over the years and that connection was really appreciated when Leigh Ann started the Copley School system and found you as a "neighbor" and later a ride to school.

Again---our thoughts are with you all.

Dear Siebert, Cain and Catalano families-
Your dad is up in heaven, making your mom an awesome Thanksgiving Spread, telling her all the wonderful stories of her seven grandkids. You should be so proud of yourselves because you took such good care of your dad to the very end. The "men of the mall" can now have their weekly pow wows up in heaven ! May he always be on your minds and forever in your hearts.
