Thomas Leslein Obituary

Thomas

"Tommy" Scott Leslein

JANUARY 13, 1997-

APRIL 7, 2018

Tommy, 21, of Cuyahoga Falls, passed painlessly away into angels' arms on April 7, 2018 as a result of a car accident.

Thomas was born on January 13, 1997 into a huge, loving family. He graduated from Archbishop Hoban High School with the class of 2015. He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary from Kindergarten through 8th grade. Both IHM and Hoban gave Tommy a set of lifelong friends and memories.

Tommy played sports his whole life and was coached by his father. He chose to pursue volleyball at Baruch college in New York City where he lived the best year of his life.

His charismatic smile, personality, and love of all people will be greatly missed. His biggest passion was his family, especially "the cousins", an unbreakable bond, and he was forever the life of the party, bringing laughter and joy to any occasion.

He leaves behind his father, Scott Leslein (Elizabeth Upham); his mother, Julie Kinzel (Gregory Carozza); his beloved sisters, Molly and Annie Leslein; his maternal grandparents, Paul and Cindy Kinzel, and his paternal grandmother, Addie Leslein. He also leaves a collection of aunts and uncles: Mike and Dani Leslein, Michelle and Dale Schlesinger, Melissa and Bob Willett, Craig Leslein, Brian Kinzel, Paula and Joe Hubbell; and cousins, Ian and Allie, Katie and Ralphie, Taylor, Allison, Patrick, Sarah, Madison, and Matthew, who we pray heals as he was with Tommy at the time of the accident.

Tommy is now with his Grandpa Frank, two peas in a pod. Tommy's life can be summed up by the lyrics to one of his favorite songs, a song that inspired him to get sibling tattoos with his sisters, "Always remember there was nothing worth sharing, like the love that let us share our name."

Calling hours 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1905 Portage Tr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 12.

In lieu of flowers, we believe that Tommy would want donations to the Thomas S. Leslein Memorial Fund through GoFundMe. These donations will go toward Tommy's lifelong friend's sister, Marie DiCola, in honor of her fight with Neuroblastoma.

To the Leslein Family,

Both my husband and I were deeply saddened when hearing about the passing of Tommy. Our son Brendan was friends with him and he always had a smile on his face when talking about Tommy.

I wanted to meet this young man who was happy to be sleeping in the closet where Brendan and his Baruch buddies lived. Upon meeting him, I couldn't help but notice Tommy's warmth . . there was an ease about him.

Late May, Brendan told us he would be driving Tommy to Ohio before heading to Indianapolis where he was working for the summer. The day the boys were leaving, my husband went to the city, helped pack or should I say cram Brendan's items in the car. Tommy was waiting on 34th street where they picked him up. He got into the back seat with his bag and it didn't matter one bit to him that he had to hold items in his lap for the six hour ride to Virginia.

That evening my husband took the boys out for dinner. He really enjoyed spending time with them. Well rested, the next morning Brendan and Tommy went to McDonalds for breakfast. They found their way back to the apartment all by themselves (since neither one had been there before). My husband was surprised how early they were up. They were ready to continue on with their adventure.

Getting the call from Brendan with the devastating news about Tommy, I was struck by Brendan's grief. He truly cares about Tommy and as Brendan said in a post, "he's heartbroken". It was both meaningful and cathartic for Brendan to be with your family and Tommy's friends to pay his respect to your wonderful son, brother, grandson, cousin and friend.

You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Our deepest sympathy to Scott, Julie, Annie and Molly. I was so impressed with the seemingly never-ending line of friends that came to show support to you at the calling hours. It is quite obvious Tommy and the entire Leslein family has a lot of friends and people who care. The amazing number of young people there made me so proud of today's youth-they stepped up and showed up. I am sure you heard this often after this tragedy but if there is anything you need, just ask. Tommy and the entire Leslein family will always be in our prayers. Take care, Mike and Boo Shell

Our prayers are with the Leslein family. We were sad and sorry to hear the news.
I was a parent leader for JAM 2012 at Hoban. Tommy was in my group and I enjoyed his spirit and leadership being one of only two sophomores in my group, the rest freshman. I continued to see Tommy at Hoban volleyball games watching his sisters, Molly and Annie. What a great brother!

Our sincere sympathy,

My family (Coach Kelly, myself Chrissy, Kimmie, April and Nathan) had watched Tommy play volleyball from his freshman year at Hoban until he graduated. When you watch them grow over those four years they feel like family. He was an amazing volleyball player! Even though I haven't seen him in person since he graduated I will never forget his smile and fun loving spirit. My heart breaks for everyone who knew him. An amazing young man that will be missed by so many. I pray for all of you to have the strength to heal through this most difficult time. The Kelly's
