Tony was my friend for many years and he was a honest, hard working, resourceful man. I visited his home in W.Va. and was truly amazed at what he had accomplished ! He built a log cabin from trees he cut on his own property. He poured the concrete slab, wired the house and plumbed it. He learned how to build a log cabin and, unless you have seen his, you can't imagine how solid and well built it was.
Each log was nested onto the one beneath it. The top log was coved out to rest ontop of the bottom log. Then a groove was cut down the center of each log and a 1X4 was insereted into that slot. Then the top log was placed on the 1X4. There was no mud between logs ! There was no need for mud !
Tony built a deck beside his cabin and in front of the cabin he built, or should I say dug a pond. I would say the pond was probably 4 or 5 acres and had running water, so it was never stagnant.
Across from the pond was a stand of trees and there he placed a salt lick. One evening we were sitting on his deck when deer came down to lick the salt and to get water. He said that on more than one occasion he shot a deer across the pond, which he dressed and ate. Easy way to hunt !
Tony built a barn for his equipment and trucks and bought used telephone poles for this project. He also built a saw milll! He used it to square up trees that he dropped on his property and sold to furniture manufacturers, mostly in SE Asia.
There was literally nothing Tony could not do ! When he was in the trucking business he often rebuilt engines, transmissions, what ever needed to be done.
Tony was a hell of a guy and I miss him already. I spoke to him in early Dec. when he told me of his illness. I planned to visit him in mid Jan. but he did not make it that long, I am sad to say.
My sincere condolences to Moi and his family. We have lost a fine man.

I'm sorry to hear of your dad's passing. I'll always cherish the fun childhood memories of us running around at your dad's garage on Gilchrist Rd. and how he gave the McDonald's drive thru lady a great line....ha ha. God broke the mold when he made your dad and may he rest in eternal peace. May God bless you all with comfort & strength.
