Words can never express what is in the depths of the heart at these times of loss and transition, but today a great woman left us and she will be missed.

Pat Ciriello lived life to the fullest. Her greatest joys were her family, especially her grandchildren, her friends, family vacations at Nags Head, N.C., her travels to exotic lands, and traveling with her childhood friends. She was employed at The Akron Board of Education, The Coventry Board of Education, The Summit County Board of Education, The Akron Board of Housing Appeals, The Republican Headquarters, The Summit County Board of Elections, and Keep Akron Beautiful. In addition, Pat volunteered at United Way, The March of Dimes, Deaf Nursery, Meals On Wheels, Alcoholic Clinic, Keep Akron Beautiful and Seeds of Change Tutoring as a Storyteller. Not sure what to say?

My parents, the late Dr. and Mrs. Earl Burgner were long time friends of Verlin and Edna Jenkins. In fact they all went to school together and during the depression dad went with Verlin to collect rent monies. I can still see the four of them sitting on my parents porch having a wonderful time just being together. Of course Verlin and Edna had three girls and then Pat married Dave Chalfant shortly after graduating from Buchtel High School and had six girls. My dad used to tease Verlin because my dad had three grandsons. Well, my dad delivered at least two of Pat and Dave's girls. I remember Betty and Janet and their lovely home on West Exchange Street. I remember dad sitting with Janet at the hospital when she was so ill with diabetes. What a wonderful happy family the Jenkins were.

The last time I saw Pat was at Nancy Parry's funeral and we hugged each other. That is how I want to remember her.

With deepest sympathy to you all.

I think of Pat at Papa Joes- the steaming plate of mussels and her beautiful smile. How she made my Father happy for the brief time they enjoyed. Pat jokingly decided she would be my wicked step mother which I embraced but time and drifting prevented this history. Girls, your Mother was so special to me and I will always remember her support after Daddy died.
She was a wonderful lady!
