Vincent Varrato Obituary
On August 13, at the break of dawn, Vincent A. Varrato died at the Hospice Care Center, where he was never alone. As a tribute to his caring and generous spirit, his grateful family kept a constant vigil.
He was born and raised on North Hill in Akron where he in turn married and raised his own family, before moving to Cuyahoga Falls. Vince started his career in the construction field as a bricklayer and later retired from the State Architects Office.
Preceded in death by his parents, Vincenzo and Angeline, and wife of 37 years, Gloria, he leaves behind a legacy of his selfless, gentle, unconditional love to his daughters, Laura (Paul) Sheeks of Silver Lake and Lisa Hilling of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren, Andrew, Alyssa and Audrey Sheeks and Cameron, Catrina and Mason Hilling; as well as sisters, Eleanor Pryor and Beverly Reder.
Special thanks to all family, friends and health care providers who bestowed any form of care and kindness upon him throughout his illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2007, 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1905 Portage Trail. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St., Akron, on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Visiting Nurse, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron, OH 44333.

Dear Laura, Lisa and family!
I had the privelege of being your next door neighbor on Oakland, oh the memories of your father and Mother. They were the best neighbors I have ever had. Vince was so quiet and so kind, I loved him very much. I remember those days when your Mother and Janie would get together and laugh all the time. I remember also your Mother calling out to Janie in the kitchen from your bathroom saying, Janie that sauce smells good and of course Janie would have her over to eat some of it. The memories of your dear Father and Mother will always be in my heart, a memory I hope NEVER to forget. I love you both and will pray for all of you and your Father and Mother. God bless you always! Sorry we couldn't have said more than "hi" but I had to at least stop briefly to give you both my sympathy. Your family remains very fond in my childhood memories!I was glad I got to see a picture of the sideburns! I always thought your dad was so sauve because of them!

Laura, Lisa and family,
I am very sorry for your loss. We all loved your dad, and he was a great uncle and influence for all of the cousins. I am really glad I had a chance to see him at my mom's funeral last year, it meant a great deal to me. Now I will really miss him!

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. When I was at church this past Sunday, they mentioned your dad's passing. I was shocked - I am so sorry. As you know, I knew and loved your mom; after her passing I would often see your dad at church and he was so cute - such a gentle spirit :-)
I lost my dad last August so I know what you are going through. It stinks! Laura, please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I miss seeing you and hope your family is well.

Dear Laura and family-
I was away, and when I heard that your father had passed away in church on Sunday, I just felt terrible. I am so sorry for your loss. I really knew and loved your mom, however after her passing I would see your dad in church and he was so cute - such a gentle spirit. To The Varrato Family,
I was a classmate of Vince and had looked forward to seeing him at our Reunion. Was saddened to hear that he was unable to attend. Loosing a parent is very painful, but the pain will ease -- never go away -- just ease. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this sad time.

Laura and Lisa And family: God bless you all in this time of sorrow. My son Steve and I were at the funeral and Vince would have been proud of the way it went. We have all been blessed for having Vince and Gloria as part of our extended family.Vince was a great friend of mine and after Gloria left we made many a trip to Thistledown together.We always enjoyed ourselves win or lose. He was always telling me about his Grandchildrens sports usually about Andy and his last baseball game and always had such a great time at them. Dear Family,
Hope these words bring some comfort:
...God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
When you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I am closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of our life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain. Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

My condolances to family. Vince was the easiest person to work with, you never worked for him rather with him. I labored on the church in North Hill and at Revere high school for Vince and his dad and am forever grateful for the knowledge they shared with me.You are in my prayers.

Vince was a wonderful man. He was a terrific husband to my sister, a wonderful father to Laura and Lisa. He must of also have been a great grandfather. He was such a terrific influence on Jeffrey. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Varrato Family,
Please accept my condolences, love and prayers. On the rare occasions that I would work at the bakery on Saturdays, I always looked forward to seeing that gentle-man, Vince, walk through the doors to get his loaf of Italian bread. I would always ask him what was on the menu, since I don't cook, and it always amazed me the delicious things he would tell me as if no big deal. Gloria was the same way, she taught me and my kids about eating the flower on the zucchini plant. We still talk about how delicious they were and tell others about it so matter of fact. Of course its best with a good loaf of Italian bread!
May the bread of life sustain you all during this trying time and know you are surrounded in love and prayers.
