Viola Morofka Obituary
Dr. Viola Julia Morofka, 75, of Ravenna Township, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 17, 2004, at Robinson Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 5, 1929, she was the daughter of Henry and Julia (Miller) Morofka. Viola grew up in Cleveland and graduated from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing. She was a head nurse in maternity at Lutheran Hospital and later at St. Luke's. Viola completed her BSN and mas ter's in psychiatric-mental health nursing at Ohio State University. She returned to Cleveland and assumed a position as clinical specialist at Brecksville VA Hospital, where she was also an instructor and Assistant Director for Education.
Viola returned to school at Case Western Reserve Universi ty, where she earned her Ph.D. in sociology. She then served as an Assistant Professor of Maternity Nursing, where she was loved and respected by her students.
Viola gave of herself in nu merous ways. She was published on various topics, served on school and university committees and task forces. She actively served her community as a member of the board of Kevin Coleman Mental Health Center, a member of the Por tage County Coordinating Coun cil on Aging, Advisory Council to the Portage County Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and a volunteer for the Western Reserve Community Mental Health Center. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Kent, Ohio.
Survivors include her sister, Martha Thomas of Chardon, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julia Bucholz and Henry L. Morofka.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at the Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, KENT Chapel. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 22, 2004, at 1:30 p.m., at Faith Lutheran Church in Kent, with Rev. Dr. Karl Fry officiating. Burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery in Cleve land, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Faith Lutheran Church Memorial Committee, 931 E. Main St., Kent, Ohio 44240. Memories may be shared by visiting www.mem.com.
