William Smith Obituary
YORK -- William R. "Bill" Smith, 68, entered into rest on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at York Hospital.
He was born September 1, 1945 in Akron, Ohio, the son of the late William P. and Sara (Viall) Smith.
Bill graduated from Buchtel High School in Akron Ohio in 1963 and worked over 30 years for Shell Oil in Houston. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in York and a Vietnam combat veteran.
Burial will be in Akron, Ohio. The John W. Keffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 902 Mt. Rose Ave. is assisting with arrangements.
He was survived by five nieces and nephews and preceded in death by his sister, Sally Kearnan.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society.

I attended Akron Buchtel H.S. one year behind Bill, but I only met him after my college graduation and when Bill returned from Viet Nam. Bill was a great friend in the early '70s. With Jeff there were three of us. We bought pedal-cycles and rode around on them. We spent time with McInally's. We spent a summer in a cabin at his Uncle's farm. It was a good time.

Bill was our family's closest friend during my childhood years in Akron. He was always kind and attentive and was a blessing to me in more ways than he knew. My prayers are with all of his family and friends.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Bill's passing. I've known him since grade school. We were very close growing up. He was a wonderful man who will be sorely missed. RIP my friend.
