REEDSVILLE — Hazel Mae (Buckley) Turner, 85, formerly of Reedsville, Ohio, passed away peacefully Jan. 17, 2017, at The Laurels in Athens, Ohio, following an extended illness.
She was born May 17, 1931, in Jackson County, West Virginia, to the late Roy Lee and Ettie Mae (Miller) White. Hazel married James Buckley in 1950 who predeceased her in 1958. She married Joseph R. Turner III in 1964 and he predeceased her in 2007. She was a full time homemaker, wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma. She was also a Brownie/Girl Scout advisor, accomplished seamstress who sewed many of her boys' clothes and she loved her flower gardens. She was a member of the Chester United Methodist Church.
Hazel is survived by four children, Bill (Twila) Buckley of Pomeroy, Tom (Judy) Buckley of Reedsville, Jim (Carolyn) Buckley of Reedsville and Lori (Allen) Arnott of Reedsville; eight grandchildren, Jeremy (Martha) Buckley of Lancaster, Ryan (Kayla) Buckley of Racine, Brandon (Leah) Buckley of Pomeroy, Brent (Renee) Buckley of Pomeroy, Lorie Ann Buckley of Middleport, TJ (Stephanie) Buckley of Pomeroy, Rachael Nolan of Pomeroy and Jennifer Brown of Dayton; 15 great-grandchildren, Anthony, Emily, Catherine, Samantha, Brynn, Clay, Alana and Hunter Buckley, LeAnn, B.J. and Randy Stewart, Jordan and Randy Buckley, Conner Nolan and Tyler Brown; and four great-great-grandchildren in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her eight brothers and sisters and their spouses, Violet, Claude, Grace, Raymond, Jennings, Blondena, Jean and Dorothy.
The family wants to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Barb and her crew at The Laurels in Athens for their kind and generous care of Mom for the past few years. They truly became her second family. The family also wants to thank Pam and her assistants from Ohio Health Hospice for assisting the family and Mom in her final days and making her passing to join her family in heaven as painless and carefree as possible.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at the Chester United Methodist Church, Chester, Ohio, with Pastors Walt and Sheryl Goble officiating. Pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchild, Jeremy, Ryan, Brandon, Brent, TJ and Anthony Buckley. Burial will follow in the Reedsville Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, from 6-8 p.m. at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home in Coolville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in her memory to the Chester United Methodist Church, c/o Brandon Buckley, Treasurer, 43570 Lovers Lane, Pomeroy, Ohio 45769.
