GALLIPOLIS — Walter Emerson Hively, 79, Gallipolis, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Friday, January 4, 2019 in the Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis. He was born July 18, 1939 at Gallipolis, son of the late Joseph Lee and Sarah Marie (Beck) Hively. Walter was employed at the Bob Evans Sausage Plant for thirty-three years before his retirement. He was a member of Prospect Baptist Church for 50 Years and served as a Deacon. Walter was an avid Ohio State Buckeye Fan who enjoyed watching the Buckeyes play. He enjoyed farming, spending Wednesdays at the stockyards and attending the county fair. He loved spending time with his family and often attended his grandchildren's ballgames and activities.
He married Margaret Kirby Hively December 30, 1961 at Gallipolis, and together they shared 57 years of marriage, who survives. To this union were born three children: Judy (Robert) Caldwell, Vinton; Linda (Jim) Thevenir, Bidwell, and Carl (Regina) Hively, Gallipolis; grandchildren: Sonya Fisher, Justin Wells, Ashley Gaines, Jamie Thevenir, Brittany Thevenir, Amanda Chapman and Amy Donohue as well as seventeen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Edward (Shelah) Hively, Maurice (Florida) Hively, Marlin Hively and Danny (Ruth) Hively.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Marietta Burger and brothers, Joseph Hively and Charles Lee Hively.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2019 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, with Pastor Ed Mollohan and speaker Guy Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Vinton Memorial Park, Vinton. Friends and family may call at the funeral home Tuesday, 5-8 p.m.
