Carmon Rucell Phipps

Carmon Rucell Phipps, age 85, passed from this life July 25, 2002. He was born in Benton County, AR, on Aug. 20, 1916, to Earl & Beulah Phipps. Carmon moved to Okla. City in 1936, and served in the U.S. Army 7th Div. Field Artillery during WWII. He was married to Irene Hoyt, in Santa Monica, CA, in 1942. She died in 1964. They had one daughter, Linda Kay; 3 sons, Larry, Dennis, and Robert. Carmon married Birdie Ison Corley in 1965. She died in 1993. Carmon owned and operated the Carmon Phipps Wholesale Meat business from 1949 until 1977, when he sold the business and retired. He served as a volunteer at the V.A. Medical Center in Okla. City, was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Bethany, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, served as a hospital representative for many years. He is survived by two sons, Robert W. Phipps & wife, Bernice, Upland, CA, and Larry R. Phipps & wife, Cyndi, Annandale, VA; two sisters, Lorene Tillery & husband, Claude, Watts, OK, and Kathleen Jack & husband, Merrill, Gainer, AR. Services will be 10:00 A.M., Thurs., Aug. 1, Mercer-Adams Funeral Chapel, with interment at Chapel Hill Cemetery. MERCER-ADAMS
