Charlene Kern Obituary

Charlene Heinen passed away Feb. 15, 2002. Born in Oklahoma City, OK June 23, 1945. She attended Bishop McGuinness High School and graduated from the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Upon graduation, she worked in Washington, D.C. for U.S. Senator Fred R. Harris. After her marriage in 1970, she lived in Ardmore, OK where she raised her family and was very involved in civic affairs. In 1993, the family moved to Tulsa where Charlene was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Charlene will be remembered primarily as a wonderful mother who loved her children and was so very proud of them. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, U.S. District Judge Terry C. Kern; her daughters, Lauren of Houston, TX and Suzanne of Tulsa; her son, Justin of Tulsa; her mother, Marie Heinen of Oklahoma City; her sister, Barbara Ryan of Edmond; her sister and brother-in-law, Annabelle and Dr. Steve Miller of Tulsa; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan and Carol Heinen, and Ed and Lisa Heinen of Oklahoma City and many nieces and nephews. Her father, Charles J. Heinen, preceded her in death. Services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Tulsa with interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Oklahoma City at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to Trinity Episcopal Habitat House Fund or Tulsa Up With Trees c/o Claire Eagan, 333 West 4th, Tulsa, OK 74103. Friends may also wish to donate to the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Charlene's untimely death. She was a lovely, sharp woman whom I very much enjoyed knowing at Bishop McGuinness and later. I will miss her.
