Charles Shawn Obituary

Charles William Shawn went to his eternal home on February 26, 2011, after a courageous battle with lung disease. He was born April 3, 1926, in Beggs, Oklahoma. He attended grade school at Oakdale School located south of Okmulgee, OK. He graduated from Bearden High School in Okfuskee County. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1944 shortly after his High School graduation and served his country until 1946. He married Mary Lynn Moore in Seminole, Oklahoma, in June, 1948. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June, 1998. Mary passed away on August 24, 1999. Charlie's hardworking, positive attitude made him very successful in the oil industry. His career with Sinclair Oil Company took him to Borger, Texas; Velma, OK; Sedan, Kansas; Carmi, Illinois; Stofford, Kansas; Norman, OK; and Enid, OK. Charlie retired in Enid, OK. During his years in Enid, he served on the Board of Directors of the Oakwood Country Club, where he enjoyed many hours of his passion "Golf." He also served 25+ years on the Board of Directors of the Grand National Quail Hunt. This experience afforded him the opportunity to host Corporate Executives, Governors, Presidents and Movie Stars. Charlie made many lifelong friends serving on his Board. Charlie was a one-of-a-kind. He later moved to Moore, OK, to be near his only son, Steve. He was not afraid to show his love for God, family, and friends. His ability to make people laugh brought joy and happiness to all who knew him. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jayne Shawn of Moore, OK; three grandchildren, Jason Shawn of Moore, April Shawn Caudle and husband Tim of Moore, Eric Shawn Myler of Fort Bragg, N.C.; one great-grandson, Adler Caudle of Moore; one brother, John L. Shawn and wife Clara Lee of Drumright, OK. He had a great number of dear friends in Enid and Moore, OK. Services will be held 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 211 N. Porter, Norman, OK. Interment will be held 3:00 PM, Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Maple Grove Cemetery, Seminole, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to: Charles W.
