David Eskridge Obituary

David Johnston Eskridge passed away October 23, 2010 after a courageous 3 year battle with cancer. Dave was born April 5, 1959 in Oklahoma City, the sixth of six kids of Dr. Jim and Margaret Eskridge. He made sports a major part of his entire life, high school football at Northeast HS, college tennis at Idaho State, and loved the OU Sooners forever. He graduated from Northern Arizona University in 1983 with a degree in photojournalism. At NAU he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha (PIKES). After graduation he moved to Phoenix and started a professional photography career. He was twice named Professional Photographer of the Year by the APPA. Recently he was honored with the Photographic Craftsman Award by the National PPA. Because of his wonderful eye and winning personality, he was called on to record the images of hundreds of families, state and national dignitaries including Presidents, and many sporting events. His assignments included Fiesta Bowls, Insight Bowls, and Phoenix Opens. He also covered one Final Four and Super Bowl XXX. One of his award winning images included Tiger Woods famous Hole-in-One at the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale during the Phoenix Open. Dave was privileged to serve in many capacities of the Fiesta Bowl Committee and the Phoenix Thunderbirds Organization. Dave will always be remembered by his family and many friends for his quick smile, warm and loving spirit, love of Sooner football, and as a thoughtful man who always put God and others before himself. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the wonderful, caring staff of Hospice of the Valley, 2122 East Highland Ave., #100, PHX, AZ 85016, with which we owe a great deal of gratitude. Funeral arrangements by Sonoran Skies Mortuary, 5650 E. Main St., Mesa, AZ 85205, sonoran skiesmortuaryaz.com Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life held 10/27 in Phoenix.

I would like to send my deepest sympathy to Dave's family. He was always very nice, always smiling, always making people laugh. I worked with him when I moved to AZ from New Orleans after Katrina. I've never forgotten him. I know he will be missed by many. I'm so very sorry. My prayers are with you.

Dave, you were always the nicest photographer to deal with at Colormark, and then later one if the nicest guys to work with. Your humor, your smile, and your photography will be sorely missed.
Love,

I will miss his always smiling face at the Open and his professionalism. He was a talented, hardworking photographer but more importantly a good man who treated those around him with kindness and grace. He is gone too soon. I guess God needed him more than we did. I am sure he is out now checking out Heaven's holy light at the golden hour. I will think of you, Dave, the next time I am on the TPC Stadium Course looking for a good shot. Peace in Christ,
