Donald McCracken Obituary

Donald R. McCrackenDon has completed his very full journey and is survived by loving wife and family. Katy was joyfully by his side to the end accompanied by daughters Carolyn (Aten), Kathy (Brasel) and son Tad. His full family life was brightened by wonderful sons Darrel Aten and Bob Brasel who were always amazed by his positive charm and outlook. Adding to his wealth were a slew of grandchildren, the first a fellow marine, Paul Brasel (Medina Brasel) of Katy, Texas. Yearly additions include one his favorite Amys (Stephen McHaney) of Victoria, Texas. Soon followed by his favorite Sooner, Ann Brasel (Bryan Menor) of Rogers, Arkansas. The first McCracken, Bill (Amy Basile) of NYC joined the procession followed soon by his favorite Matt (Natalie Aten) of Arlington, Texas. Windy McCracken of NYC next joined the fray who would turn his Broken Arrow home into a wonderful party overseen by the trusted Orph. Finally, his favorite cookie eater Katie (Chris Sindersen) of NYC completed that generations' brood. Later, Olivia and Anessa Brasel, Mary Caroline and Boone Roberts McHaney, Kiera and Brennan Menor and Zachary Aten were to have the joy of knowing and being with their GREAT grandpa, Frog. Gravel(Don) was also survived by his twin siblings Lawrence and Laurene, each regaling Don with recent visits and stories of their wonderful time together. Dons new place was prepared for him by his mother and father, Maude and Walter, brother and sister, Wilson and Mildred, and a very special emissary, his son Tommy who we are certain are all of great joy and comfort at this very moment. While growing up on what is now Sunnylane cemetery, Don began his mischief spiced by trips to nearly every state! His travels as a young man included Parris Island, Okinawa, Peleliu, Inchon, Seoul and the Chosin Reservoir as a marine proudly doing his part to protect his country and young family. His work began and ended with Metropolitan Life with stops at the Orange Bowl and his proud McCracken Service Company. After retiring as soon as possible, he made multiple holes in one and some of his greatest friends at Indian Hills golf club, in Broken Arrow. While some owe him our very existence, all who knew him loved his humor, wit and care for others. He will be greatly missed. Services will be held at 10:00AM Tueday, May 27, 2008 at Sunny Lane Funeral Home in Del City.

Don was a sweet soul, greatly loved by his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always respectful towards others (I suspect his sense of humor helped him in that regard!). The world is a better place because he was in it. He will be missed.
