Doris Hale Obituary

Doris Jean (Chancey) Hale, 73, passed away early Thursday, November 9, 2006, after a short courageous battle against cancer. Doris was born December 14, 1932, in Leonard, Oklahoma to Charles Opal Chancey and Elizabeth Evelyn (Elsie) (Pregler) Chancey. She attended Leonard Schools through 8th grade then attended Bixby High School. She was the Bixby High School Homecoming Queen in 1950. She also played guard on the girls basketball team for Bixby High School and took the team to the State Tournament in 1950. Doris was an avid reader. She read thousands of books during her lifetime. She possessed a collection of 18th century romance novels which would be envied by anyone who loved books of that genre. She also loved to garden and everyone admired her beautiful flowers. After graduating from Bixby High School, Doris moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she lived and worked for Oklahoma Natural Gas Company for over seventeen years. At 35, she met the love of her life, Frederick H. Hale of Wichita, Kansas, and they were married in June of 1968 at the Boston Avenue Methodist Church. Doris then moved to Wichita with Fred. She worked in accounting and payroll at the Wichita Board of Education until 1990. In 1990, Doris and Fred returned to Tulsa, Oklahoma to be closer to their families. Doris loved to travel. Following their retirement and relocation to Tulsa, the two focused on entertainment and travel. Doris accompanied her husband on hundreds of golf games at Meadowbrook Country Club. Doris and Fred traveled with the Bixby Horizons Club, the Grand Adventure Club, and with dear friends Debbie and Payton Wilson to many exciting places, including Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Nova Scotia, and the Virgin Islands. Doris was a loving and devoted spouse and she cared deeply for all her family. She was an even-tempered, intelligent, and independent woman. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bixby. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Elsie Chancey, her loving husband, Frederick H. Hale, and beloved Beagle Andy. She is survived by daughter, Linda Hale McGuire and her husband Kent McGuire of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; son, Jon F. Hale and his wife Lynn Kamenitsa of Oak Park, Illinois; grandsons William Dane III, Wyatt McGuire, and Vade Hale; granddaughter Eleanor (Nellie) Hale; sisters Helen Henderson of Bixby, Oklahoma and Betty Warren of Warner, Oklahoma; aunt Gladys Ellis and uncles Kenneth, Bill, Tommy and Ronnie Chancey; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, in-laws and other extended family. She will be missed greatly by all her family. The family expresses its special thanks to Doris' sister Betty who stayed with her and cared for her during the last months of her life. Also, special thanks to caregivers from Grannies of Oklahoma who showed loving care and compassion to Doris and her family in Doris' final days. The family will receive visitors in Doris' home on Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Bixby at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2006. Miss Doris was a true jewel. My ladies who cared for her during her last days have never so quickly come to love a patient and bond with her so lovingly. My deepest sympathies to Miss Betty and Linda and all of the family. Your devotion to making her last days as comfortable as possible and allowing her to be in her own home was surely a gift from God. We need more people like you on this earth. God Bless.

Doris was a wonderful person. I was sorry to hear of her death. I worked side by side with her for many years at USD 259 in Wichita and know how devoted she was to Fred and her family. She was a wonderful role model.

I extend my condolences to her family, especially to her sisters and Linda and Jon and families. She shared many stories of her wonderful family. Andy was also a special pet and I enjoyed hearing of his antics over the years. I offer my sincere sympathy.

Doris has blessed my life in so many ways for so many years. Her love of life, Fred, family and friends was so apparent in every aspect of her being. I will miss her beautiful smile and happy heart. I thank God for our years together, to have the privilege of sharing her joys and sorrows, and witnessing the pure love she displayed for all she touched. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

I also want to take the opportunity to thank Betty and Linda for the constant love and attention given Doris during her illness. This is truly God's work through human hands.

Doris and Fred were special friends to Payton and I. We could not have asked for better neighbors (and have never had since) and friends. Doris and Fred will always have a special place in our hearts and memory.

Payton and I wish to extend our deepest sympathy to all of Doris' family. She will be missed. We are so very lucky to have known such wonderful people.
