EILEEN MYERS Obituary

December 16, 1937 - June 9, 2015 CRESCENT Eileen Shannon Myers was born on December 16, 1937 at Mason, Oklahoma to Leslie and Ruby Shannon. She passed away on June 9, 2015.Eileen attended Mason School graduating in 1956 and later attended East Central College in Ada, Oklahoma, majoring in Home Economics. Eileen played basketball while attending Mason School and helped her father raise her brothers and sister.Eileen met Joe Myers in 1962 and they were married on June 8, 1963 at Okemah, Oklahoma. Out of this union, four children were born: Eileen, Joleen, Shannon and Joey. After their marriage, they moved to Wewoka, Oklahoma, where they worked at Oklahoma Clothiers before moving to Oklahoma City in 1963.Eileen and Joe started Myers Taxidermy in 1963 in Oklahoma City and moved the business to Edmond in 1964 where she was located for 39 years before moving to Crescent, Oklahoma, in 2005.Eileen was one of the first women Taxidermists in the United States in 1963. She was well known throughout the world for her work. She had numerous articles written about her and her work. She had several customers she never met due to being too far away. She always considered her customers as her friends and the feeling was mutual as she did work for children and grandchildren of some of her very first customers.Eileen worked closely with the Oklahoma Wildlife Department and made numerous friends there through the years. She also did work for the Cowboy Hall of Fame and several other museums. She enjoyed going to the schools in Edmond and Oklahoma City and talking to children about her work and wildlife. Eileen also worked with Native American Indian tribes helping design their dancing costumes.Eileen and Joe had a home at Lake Eufaula where she enjoyed fishing on weekends since 1964. She enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband and was especially found of trout fishing in Colorado, Wyoming and the San Juan River in New Mexico.Eileen received a liver transplant in 2000 and a very special thank you goes to Matthew Ethridge for giving her a new lease on life and also to the Dr. Harlan Wright, Dr. Anthony Sebastian and their nurses at Oklahoma Transplant Center.Eileen is survived by her husband Joe of Crescent; children Eileen and Jessie Burns of Guthrie, Joleen and Glen Palmer of Crescent, Shannon and Jim Bob Dunn of Crescent and Joey Myers of Mason; grandchildren Hannah Myers-Burns, Jodi and Kourtney Palmer, Koti Palmer, Shannon Palmer, Mark Wilson and Jaynann Dumler, Cherokee and Billy Donaldson, Braiden Reno, Jojo Myers and Brandy Baber and Conner Myers; great grandchildren Maxden Palmer, Sabriuh Palmer, Emma Rae Myers and Ruger James Donaldson; brothers Joe Ellis and Norma Shannon, Jerry and Mary Jo Shannon, Eric Shannon and Julian Shannon and sister Wanda Haynes; numerous family members. Eileen was preceded in by her parents Leslie and Ruby Shannon and step mother Iona Shannon and sister Virginia Lee Shannon. She was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law Earl Lee Myers, sisters-in-law Jeanette McDaniel and Norma Lee Shannon.Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Crescent with Rev. Steve Black officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakview Cemetery in Lovell. Services are under the direction of Abernathy Aaron Funeral Home in Crescent.
