Emmett Stratton Obituary

Emmett Lee, 97, of Choctaw, passed away Dec. 9, 2001. He was born Jan. 13, 1904, in Clay County, Kansas, 7th son of Addie & Dan J. Stratton. In 1907, he moved to Kingfisher County, OK. He was a teacher for 40 years, beginning his teaching career in 1924 in Kingfisher County. He taught in Colorado for 5 years & in Oklahoma he taught at Choctaw, Nicoma Park, Spencer, Tryon, Summers Chapel, New Model, Ferguson, Friendship, & Rocky Point. Emmett was a Mason, Shriner, Scottish Rites, Order of Eastern Star, Lions Club, Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association, Teacher of the Year, & a Sunday School teacher. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Belle Crosby Stratton, formerly of Akron, CO; children, Willa Knight of San Antonio, TX, Alma & son-in-law, Robert Yates of Commerce, TX, Deanna Sparks of Choctaw; & friend, Odis Trotter of Midwest City; grandchildren, Mary & Bill Porter of Bethany, Danny McCollum of San Antonio, TX, Robert & Sara Yates of Commerce, TX, Kenneth & Cathy Yates of Warminster, PA, Dennis Allen of Choctaw, Paula & David Fox of Nicoma Park; great-grandchildren, Jennifer, William, Robert & Matthew Yates, Perry & Wayne Yates, Christopher & Ashley Porter & Nathan Fox; sisters- in-law: Lula Stratton of Perkins & Vera Acree of Okla. City; step-children, Helen Crosby, Don & Carol Crosby, Ron & Janice Crosby, & Phil Crosby. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline Acree Stratton, on July 6, 1981, his parents, 6 brothers & 1 sister, Gilmore, Stacy, Carl, Kenneth, Don, an infant brother, & Alice Stratton. Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Thurs., Dec. 13, 2001, at the Nicoma Park Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held 3:30 p.m., at Carney Cemetery, in Carney, OK.
