Etta Thomson Obituary

Etta Gertrude "Trudy" Thomson, of Kingfisher, Yukon and Oklahoma City, died 09/15/2010 at 2:15 PM at St. Ann's Nursing Home, 7501 W. Britton Rd., Oklahoma City, OK 73132, at the age of 83 from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Born 10/14/1926 at 2:15 A.M. in Dover, Oklahoma, to Bevel O. and Clara McCully. Trudy traveled the country with her family in her early years, foregoing her high school education to help support her family. Settling in Kingfisher, OK, Trudy became a Beautician in much demand among fashion-conscious local women. Marrying William J. Thomson on August 31, 1947, Trudy raised three children, Kathi, Joe and Tom. Divorcing in 1971, Trudy later moved to Yukon, OK, first working as a Nurses Aid, then enjoying many years employed by the City of Yukon in the Recreation Department. Trudy last worked as the receptionist at the Yukon Dale Robertson Center, retiring in 2005. Trudy was a devoted, forgiving and generous-to-a-fault wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, daughter, sister and fierce friend. A lifelong student, Trudy taught herself how to use a computer and completed her G.E.D. in her 60's. She was also a self-taught inventor and fan of gadgets, always finding new and innovative ways to make mundane tasks easier. Trudy is remembered as graceful under pressure, a diligent worker, stubborn debater, ornery prankster, faithful confidante, stylish fashionista, and jitterbug queen. Trudy is survived by children: Kathi Miller and her husband Rogge; Joe Thomson and wife Norma; Tom Thomson and wife Rebecca; all of Oklahoma City; grandchildren: Courtney and husband Jim; Carmen and husband Bill; Jennifer and husband Daniel; Jason and wife Stacey; Sean, and Riley; great-grandchildren: Mikaela, Tahlor, Rogge, Shae, Lyric and William; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Trudy is preceded in death by her parents, Bev and Clara; and her sisters, Ida Schwarz, Billie Bullard and Beverly Kottwitz; all of Kingfisher, OK. Trudy's final arrangements are entrusted to Yanda and Son Funeral Home, 1500 W. Vandament, Yukon - Phone: 405/350-7101. At Trudy's request there will be no formal services. Those wishing to honor Trudy's memory may give to the American Lung Association or other similar charity of their choosing. Online condolences may be signed at: www.yandaandsonfuneralhome.com
