Eugene McGlasson Obituary

Eugene Jack McGlasson was born in Oklahoma City, November 25, 1919, to Eugene and Lucille McGlasson. Jack's father was an only child, his mother was an only child and Jack was an only child. He used both his first and middle names, using Eugene mostly in business and Jack with family and friends. Jack graduated from Classen High School in OKC. His father died when Jack was a senior in high school. Jack enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1941, at Ft. Worth, Texas. He had a little difficulty enlisting, as he couldn't seem to meet the weight requirement. After several attempts, and eating pounds of bananas before 'weighing in' he was finally accepted. He worked for several months in Ohio, where the Coast Guard had their ice-cutter ships built. After WWII was declared, Jack served in the Pacific having duty in Australia, New Guinea, Barneo and the Philippines. He served five years in the Coast Guard and received his Honorable Discharge, as a Chief Yeoman, in 1946, in New Orleans. After working in the office for a few months for Wilson Packing Co., in Oklahoma City, Jack decided to become a real estate agent and formed a company with several other people. Later he decided to form his own company and called it Hallmark Real Estate, which he owned for about 35 years. Jack became a Mason and was active in the organization. During this period in his life, he became active in civic and community affairs. He was a member of the Real Estate Association, Chamber of Commerce and he served on the Board of Management at the Downtown YMCA, where he taught scuba and swimming. Jack leaves his close friend, Ivan Bridges, and Ivan's three daughters, Kay Lynn Sands of Wichita, Kansas, Kathy Reynolds of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Karen Smardo of Denver, Colorado, as well as many friends whom he appreciated very much. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, August 30, 2007 at the Hahn-Cook/Street and Draper Chapel. Memorial donations may be made In Memory of Eugene McGlasson to Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, 1727 NW 16th St., Oklahoma City, OK 73106. Money will go to the endowment fund to provide scholarships for kids to attend Lyric.

Jack sold me my first home in CENTRAL PARK ADDITION IN OKC in the summer 1976. Jack was very helpful in getting me qualified for my first loan and the sale went smoothly with no issues - I am very thankful he was so kind in helping me - I just found out of his passing at this late date. I’ll never forget his kindness.

Jack was a dear friend. He enjoyed our family get-togethers and always thanked us for the companionship and food. He and I shared a love for cats. He was always so kind to us. We will miss him! Karen Smardo and family
