GEORGE PINGLETON Obituary
Pingleton Aug. 28, 1927 - July 13, 2018 TAHLEQUAH George Gene Pingleton was born Aug. 28, 1927, in Haileyville, OK to Rachel Hendricks Pingleton and Julius Boss Pingleton. He attended Oklahoma and Texas public schools and graduated from McAlester High School in 1945. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy. Following his discharge in 1946, he enrolled at The University of Oklahoma and received his B.S. degree in education in 1950. He was employed by Ponca City Schools to teach science at McKinley elementary school, and from 1956 to 1960, was Principal of Liberty school. He married Nora Ruth Kirk in Enid, OK in 1951, and their children are Jane Ann, Joan Ellen, and Susan Gayle. Jane & Robert Evans live in Hedgesville, WV. Joan and Gary Barnoskie live in Vian, OK and have two sons; Isaac & Courtney live in Vian and have one daughter, Brynn; Jonathan lives in Tulsa, OK. Susan & Lenny Sansanowicz live in Los Angeles with daughter, Zoe Rachel. He received his M.S. and Ed.D. degrees at Oklahoma State University. From 1962 to 1966, he was Oklahoma City School's Elementary Director. He was the Superintendent of Stillwater Schools from 1966 to 1972. He returned to the OU College of Education and taught School Administration and Public School Law. At the time of his retirement in 1988, he was the Associate Dean of the college. He co-authored the publication "Financing Education In Oklahoma," which was published by Oklahoma State School Board Association. Upon his retirement in Dec. 1988, the President and Regents of OU issued the following citation: "The University of Oklahoma Confers the Title of Professor Emeritus of Education on George G. Pingleton In Grateful Recognition of More Than Fifteen Years of Service to Oklahoma University. A Demonstrated Leader in Teacher Education Reform. He is Considered an Authority on Oklahoma School Law. For Many Years he Represented the College on the Oklahoma State Professional Standards Board, Influencing Many Issues Pertaining to the Professional Standards of Teaching in the State of Oklahoma." A Private Memorial for the family will be at a later date. Services were entrusted to the Hart Funeral Home, of Tahlequah, OK.
