I was blessed to be in one of Glenn´s workshops at St James BC in Spencer Okla. 1990? But just this morning in my prayer time did the Lord bring to mind "The Lord is in His Holy Temple"
Praise God for the gifted Glenn Burleigh. My deepest condolences. .

We were "his" trio, Gina, Brenda and Myrna - Trinity Trio of Dallas, Texas. He told us that he had never considered his music for small groups until he heard us sing "Faithful Over a Few Things." We asked him if we had his permission to sing his music on our concert trip to Kiev and Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine in 1994. That was one of our greatest joys when Glenn said, "Yes."
Whenever he came to Dallas, he would feature us in whichever venue where he was sharing his wonder, Godsent music. We were thrilled to serve.
We miss him terribly! Glenn Edward Burleigh was one of God's true servants.

In 2006, he led a gospel workshop in San Antonio at Lackland Air Force Base the I participated in. I was able get CD and prints of several of his songs that I used to enrich the service at my church and for my own use when I needed to be motivated or spiritually uplifted. The gospel workshop ended up being transformational and helped in many ways beyond the original expectation.

Dr. Glenn Burleigh,
Was the, Greatest musician of our time. He wrote many beautiful songs such as Elisha, Come Unto Jesus, Order My Steps, and many more... He was a friend of Doretha Wade - Wilkerson and the Salem Baptist Church Choir, in Omaha, Nebraska. One day I was asked by a Producer to help promote one of his songs title, "Faithful Over A Few Things." For a Musical at, Morning Star Baptist Church, in Omaha, Nebraska. His music was top of the line, considered as advanced sheet music, his music Rock... I thank God for allowing Dr. Burleigh, to play a role in my life as a youth, singing in the choir at Salem Baptist Church in Omaha, Nebraska.
Happy Memorial Day

Dr. Burleigh was my instructor at LeMoyne Owen College in Memphis, Tn. He often told me how talented I was and would call me to sing on his Concerts in Memphis, especially, the Christmas Concert at Metropolitan Baptist Church next to The college. He and I use to go eat at the Cupboard restaurant after our 5:30 class and discuss music. I can truly say, He was a great friend and an incredible mentor, I will remember him forever, and thank GOD everyday for letting him cross my path, and share his wisdom, talent, advice, musical arrangement secrets, and the How to's of orchestration. I could never have learned how to orchestrate had it not been for, Glen Edward Burleigh, GOD bless you my brother and save a seat for me in the heavenly orchestral conductor's section.

Glenn Burleigh was an extraordinary musical creator. His skillful talent caused my eyes to water and my spirit to rise. I sang the Cantata's he wrote for many years and even initiated the use of the Good Friday Cantata " Let God Arise" which is still sung yearly after 15 years. I am grateful to have met and known and experience this wonderful music! Greatness is always remembered! A Soprano singing in the Chicago Metropolitan area.

I grew up in Guthrie Oklahoma with Reverend Burleigh Glenns Father as my pastor Mount Olive Friendship Baptist Church. I grew up sining in the annual workshops we had there. I loved Glenn. I was young but i will always remember when he saw me and my sisters (tripplets) he would just hug and kiss on us. I remember his music touching my heart at a young age. I thought he was so awesome. I hated to hear of his passing and will always remember him. My condolences to the family.

Grief seems to rise up and fade away much like the tides of the seas ... ebb and flow. Having lost many friends and family including Glenn (who was both)-I can only offer a prayer - a donation - a gift -- a gesture of Christ's love--and dedicate it to Glenns' memory. I count my blessings right now, not waiting until tomorrow because of having known G-E-B.

It has been a year since we lost Glenn and I still think of him and the void he has left -- and not just musically. True, his musicianship was unique and unduplicable; most significantly his personality and spirit exuded a love for the Lord. My prayer is that the sting of losing him has become manageable for his family. My hope is that efforts are underway to preserve the precious gifts of his creative genius that lie within his music.

Mr. Burleigh was very dear to me. I had the opportunity of working with him at Good Hope Bapt. Church in Houston, Texas. I was in the orchestra and was introduced to the "Born to Die" Cantata.
Mr. Burleigh was a phenomenal composer/arranger. He will truly be missed. However, I will always remember his Christ-like spirit.

Mr. Burleigh was my 12th grade music teacher at Tech High in Omaha. He was determined that I was going to learn to read music (because I had played by ear up to this time). He was a wonderful teacher, one of my favorites! The musicians from my church would attend workshops and participate in mass choirs under Mr. Burleigh. I contacted him a quite a few years ago through his website and he sent me the most endearing responses. I have such fond memories and I am thankful for them. To the family, he has truly left his mark upon the hearts of many and will not be forgotten. God bless you! (Also, thank you Sam Vladovic for maintaining this guest book)

I met Glenn when I was only ten years old in Omaha, Nebraska at the Morning Star Baptist Church. I learned so much form him and it wasn't just music but I also learned so much of the Word from him . Glenn would teach us a song and then take out his Bible and explain the song through the Word of God. He wanted us to know who and what we were singing about. The day the Lord called him home, I called him to inform him that I have been called to preach. I never got a hold of him, but I'm sure he knew. On that day, I beleive he stood before the Lord and the Lord said to him, "Well done thou good and faithful servant" - I count it a blessing that God sent him to Omaha.

Words cannot express how much I miss my friend, mentor and brother in Christ. Brother Burleigh, as he likes to be called, became more than just a mentor, he became a friend. I met Brother Burliegh at LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis, Tennessee in 1999. The immeasurable times in his classes, meals he shared with my family and his presence at Metropolitan Baptist Church will always remain in my memories and in my heart.
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way, though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand. Ps. 37:23-24

Wow! I don't know how I managed not to write in the guestbook of one of the greatest composers, musicians, and of course my mentor and friend. Our paths crossed on the campus of LeMoyne-Owen College in 1999. He came that year to conduct a lecture and I was fascinated by his energy and his spirit. That following year, Mr. Burleigh (or Brutha Burleigh) joined the faculty and during that time changed my life forever. I started as a student in his Black Church Music class and of course I aced it. I ended up being his "music coordinator/organizer" for his classes and anywhere else he had to lecture. But I got to know Brutha Burleigh on a much higher musical level when he motioned me to conduct one of his numbers during one of our concerts. That one day and time changed my life forever. From that day on, whenever the concert choir performed his music, I directed. But he was neva too far behind me. It was funny because you had to watch both him and myself. I loved him as a "Father" and as a friend. I thank God everyday that He allowed our paths to cross and for our spirits to form a bond that I will ALWAYS treasure. May God bless you.

We had the pleasure of meeting Glenn Burleigh at our local Cops-N-Kids book center. Our youngest son is taking piano and he offered most encouraging words. We made it our mission to attend the Washington Park High REMEMBERING GLENN CONCERT.With all of Mr. Burleigh's music filling the room, of course, it was absolutely wonderful. It is our hope that as our young son grows he will grow in his appreciation of a man who touched many lives.

We just learned of Dr. Burleigh's passing and were shocked and sadden. Having participated in two workshops conducted by Dr. Burleigh and also honoring him with a Pick-Nic at our home; we feel like we lost a family member and we didn't have a chance to say goodbye. He was truly a great teacher and song writer. Performing his compositions have always been inspirational with special feelings and now will have an even deeper impact in our lives.

To Kenneth, LaVonne, Auntie Roland, and all of the family. I looked for something spiritual to say and thought of Glenn's words during the death of my sister Doretha Wade- Wilkerson. He said he didn't have anything religious to tell me. He told me he waited until all of the fried chicken, potato salad, and pound cake was gone and you really needed a friend. A friend to share old times with and talk about new times. He told me that "God Can Make It Better". Today I want to say now that all of the chicken, potato salad, and pound cake are gone I continue to remember Glenn. Glenn was my friend for over 30 years when we were in Omaha and after he moved around the country. He shared with me how my supporting him as a friend and musician gave him courage and confidence in the early days of his music ministry but I was blessed beyond measure having him as my friend, my supproter, and confidant. He took me to Auntie Roland's house on one of those church trips to Guthrie and I was introduced to your family and shared in the many times Mrs. Burleigh came to Omaha. I want to share Glenn's words with you; nothing spiritual or deep but "God Can Make It Better" You are forever in our prayers.

I want to express my sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Glenn Burleigh. Singing his music touched me immensely, especially the Alpha Mass. I have had the great pleasure of singing many of Glenn Burleigh's compositions with the Choral Arts Society of SE Wisconsin, often under his direction. We have lost a great man, not only musically, but a wonderfully spiritual man. Glenn could get you to feel and express his music by how he taught the music. I still think about him two months after his death. The choirs in heaven are surely enjoying his company! God's blessings to everyone who has been touched by this wonderful man!

I am the Assistant Chapter Representative of the Lafayette Tri-Parish Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. On Sunday December 16th, 2007 our choir, The Acadiana Ecumenical Choir celebrated our 10th Annual performance of “Born To Die” and because we planned to retire this piece of music Glenn Burleigh was invited to be our Guest of Honor. After traveling to Houston to join in “The Born to Die Sing-A-Long” in November, and traveling to Chicago to join And Lander’s group in their performance of Born To Die, our chapter was looking forward to performing our flavor of Born to Die. Glenn was happy to receive the invitation, in fact, he rearranged his schedule to accommodate us. Glenn was no stranger to us. He had visited with our chapter, had participated in choir training and had conducted the Born To Die production on at least two occasions in our 10 years of performances. The choir members were all very excited, and I was also. We were in contact with Glenn on December 10th, the weather was very bad in the Oklahoma area, downed power lines, snow and ice and other road hazards could make it impossible for him to journey to Lafayette. He assured us that he felt he could drive down to Lafayette, La and that he was looking forward to visiting with Dr. Herbert Jones who has been our regular guest conductor for the Born To Die celebration. The following day we got the message that Glenn Burleigh had passed. The choir was in SHOCK !! I was speechless. I turned on my Born To Die teaching tape as I do when my heart is troubled. These are the words which were placed in my heart.
Glenn, you will be missed, the void which you leave will not easily be filled. The Lord looked down, took stock of all you were doing and all you had done and he said. WELL DONE YOU GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT – WELL DONE!!

I was introduced to Glenn Burleigh by my choir director who chose to do his music for our anniversary. well, word finally reached me in Indiana about Glenn's passing. Having met in Omaha, NE where Glenn was Min of music at Morning Star Baptist..I was at KCRO Radio.
We shared meals, visits, phone calls and I even spoke to a National Baptist Convention workshop in Atlanta at Glenn's request. He had a way of making people feel so appreciated with his gentle southern drawl and love of music. We hope to present a memorial here in Indianapolis.

GLENN BURLEIGH WAS INDEED A GIFTED MUSICIAN AND WRITER. HE WROTE SONGS ABOUT EVERYDAY LIFE AND DREAMS. HE ASKED QUESTIONS AND EXPRESSED HOPES AND DESIRES FOR ALL PEOPLE. MANY PEOPLE BECAME ACQUAINTED WITH THE PHILOSOPHY OF THIS POWERFUL AND TALENTED MUSICIAN THROUGH SINGING HIS GREAT, CHRISTMAS CANTATA, "BORN TO DIE." I ESPECIALLY LIKE THE WAY IN WHICH MR. BURLEIGH'S SONG WRITINGS COMBINE THEMES FROM THE BIBLE. THANKS TO A MUSICAL GIANT.

To the musical man who has influenced many,
To the one who has touched me with song,
To the man as godly as any,
I am thankful that God has led thee on.
Far from the pain of worry.
Away, o pangs of gloom.
Far removed your soul be,
Away, and forevermore to bloom.
Welcomed in glory,
By the One true Divine.
Sit thou at thy Master's feet,
The Master who truly is thine.

From Barbara Griffin, Minister of Music of the First Baptist Congregational Church of Chicago, Il.
I was blessed to be in Glenn's class for our National Baptist Sunday School Congress. He was a gifted teacher as well as musician. I was blown away by how well he accompanied a soloist in his class. He had never rehearsed with her but he accompanied her perfectly. It was as though he could read her mind and knew just what she was going to do. He was fabulous.
Our choir sings his Magnificat, (Song of Mary) from "Born To Die". I have never heard anything more beautiful. It incorporates a Soprano solo, choral reading and Scripture readings. Every time we sing this, it just blows me away. This has to be Glenn Burleigh at his best.
I thank God for having known him.

I belong to the Greater Mt Olive Baptist Church in Oklahoma City where Mr Glenn Burleigh taught our choir his famous "Order My Steps" about 15 years ago and I believe we were the first choir to learn it and the last choir to sing it with him in December 2007. He was an amazing instrumental person used by God on High to minister to us here on earth through music and songs. He is truly missed, but we know where to find him...inside Heaven's Gates writing songs for the angels to sing. To his family, be encouraged and stay strong in the Lord's army.

When I bought my house Glenn couldnt come see it at the time so he Blessed the house over the internet that prayer covered everything (or so I thought) then he remembered something else and send an addendum to the prayer. I printed it out and framed it and set it by the fireplace. When I told him I was going to sing at Carnegie Hall he said Halleluah, Praise the Lord, Bless His Holy Name, (I knew he would be excited for me) When I get overwhelmed with "stuff" he would be my anchor to help me stay grounded and keep me from going off on tangents. Since his passing, The Lord is stretching me in ways I've never encountered before and I'm not wanting to do that anymore than Jonah wanted to go to Ninevah! LaVonne Burleigh

Glenn and I met at Oklahoma City University when we entered the Master of Music program in 1975. But it was not until 2007 that Glenn and I worked together so closely when he became our first Artist in Residence at Greater Mount Olive Baptist church. I write to express my shock and deep sadness at learning of the recent death of Glenn Burleigh. I came to know Glenn personally and professionally when he and I were colleagues at LeMoyne-Owen College, he the Artist-in-Residence, and I president of the College during that time. My condolences and sympathy go out to all Glenn's family and to the many friends who, like me, will always cherish his memory and his unique contributions to our lives.

Glenn and I grew up together in Guthrie, Oklahoma. We went to school together from kindergarten through high school. He was always into music as he played the piano in church, the clarinet in grade school through high school and was drum major in the high school band. Little did I know that during those formative years he was preparing to be one of the greatest Drum Majors for the Lord. It has been said that "it does not matter when you are born or when you die. What matters most is what you do with the "dash" between when you are born and when you die. I believe that it is obvious to us all that Glenn Edward Burleigh filled his "dash" by sharing his God-given talents and love for people with all he came in contact with. Although I did not attend Glenn's homegoing celebration, I heard about it from Ohio. I understand that it, as well as the musical tributes, were simply beautiful...fit for a King! Thank you all for sharing a part of your life with Glenn and for being such an important part of the "dash" in his life. Glenn is my cousin.
May God continue to Bless each and everyone of you.

I have always enjoyed and been inspired by Glenn's most endearing music. I met Mr. Burleigh at the Texas Music Educators Association conference a few years ago in San Antonio, Texas. His musical advice and honest candor made me realize that my church choir could perform more than just "black gospel" music. As a result, we just performed one of Burleigh's "masterpieces" in my opinion; The christmas Cantata-Born to Die." It was a smashing success and we owe it all to the musical genius of Glenn Edward Burleigh. We in the East Texas Area (Tyler, Longview, etc), know that the music world has lost a genius

Just remembering Glenn's coming to our church to help our choir perfect the ministering of his GOD-inspired work, Born to Die. I knew Glenn in a slightly different way than most who have posted. We were piano majors together at the University of Oklahoma in 1969-1970. We had dinner each evening in a dorm cafeteria with a large table of friends and aquaintances. When things would get a little crazy at the table, conversation-wise, Glenn and I would start singing the music from the Loony Tunes cartoons! And we laughed and laughed. I remembered that through the years and am confident that Glenn did also, with the same smile on his face. I haven't seen Glenn since 1970. Almost 38 years. But I know that in Heaven he still remembers the Loony Tunes days. God rest his soul.

To the family of Glenn Burleigh you have my sincere condolences. We in the global music community have loved Glenn for sharing God's extraordinary gift of song. God, however, has expressed the ultimate gift of love by calling his son home to live forever in glory.
We of the Sanctuary Choir of The Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York City have enjoyed sharing the gift's of Glenn's musical ministry with our congregation over the many years.
As the church celebrates its 200th anniversary, we share in this great loss. But we and all the world will continue to "Be Blessed" by Glenn Burleigh's musical genius.

To the family of Glenn Burleigh. You are in my prayers. Words cannot express the gratitude I feel for the opportunity to work with your loved one through the New Jubilee Choir of Milwaukee. I'm so saddened by this news. I came to know Glenn through a commission several years ago. We had performed his Suite for Kwanza (fantastic music)... my choir LOVED it... so, I contacted Glenn to create something major for us. What a joy that experience was... I shall never forget the premiere, with Glenn coming forward at the end... then sitting down at the piano and improvising an encore. A great man, a great soul. The world is a greater place for his having walked among us.

Glenn's "Alpha Mass" was the driving force for my joining the Choral Arts Society of Southeastern Wisconsin 17 years ago. It was a privledge and a joy to work with Glenn and record the "Alpha Mass" and "Lamentation and Celebration" with the CAS.
Glenn's song "Deliverance" from L&C touched my heart in such a profound way as we were preparing to perform it with him and I was going through very "hard trials" at the time. I will never forget how much he cared about all of the musicians and singers who have worked with him over the years. Glenn's music will live on forever and ever.
We have all lost a great teacher and friend. Racine, Wisconsin truely loved him.

My consolation is believing that God wanted Glenn to write, arrange, conduct and play for the heavenly choirs. I am further comforted to know we have the privilege of singing his works on this earth for many years to come.
My prayers are for his family, friends and fans, who like me are grateful for this gift from God: the music of Glenn Burleigh

Glenn's journey has ended but his music will live on. Glenn's music touched lives all over the World. We had the honor of working with Glenn years ago in Omaha when we all lived in that City. Glenn directed our Church, Bethel Baptist, in a recording of his original music. His ability to put scripture to music was divine. We will never forget the blessing of that experience. Our prayers for strength and comfort are with the family and all who mourn this loss.

Mr. Burleigh conducted several workshops and concerts in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His music was well received and appreciated by both young and old people. I am so glad that he worked with the young people. He exposed them to excellence in music.
God bless Mr. Burleigh's soul and allow him to rest in peace.

I extend my sincere heart felt sympathy to the family of Glenn Burleigh.I remember my first meeting with Glenn when he was visiting the Racine area. He came into the salon where I was employed and I had the honors of giving him a hair cut. From that point on a true Godly fellowship began. It was a blessing from God to know Glenn and to sing his music. In a short life span Glenn managed to touch the world with his gifts. In my spirit I feel that Glenn would not want us to be sad yet to remember and know that he had a purpose, that he made a difference and that he changed lives! I thank God for allowing me to experience GREATNESS in the life of his servant Glenn Burleigh. Glenn lives on through his music and all the positive contributions he made here on earth! May God bless, comfort and keep his family.

I first met Glenn at the 1995 National Baptist Congress of Christian Education in the city of San Diego, California. He was a true and kind man of God and it was an honor to receive an autographed copy of "He's My Hiding Place." It was always a pleasure to see him at the Gospel Music Workshop of America. With his personal encouragement, in 2001, I finally decided to complete my B.A. degree in Church Music from the Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I am deeply saddened of his passing, but I am grateful to God for allowing our paths to have crossed in this life. Glenn, your piano solo arrangement of "The Star-Spangled Banner" is beyond words. Your music is eternal, and some day I look forward to meeting you again in the Eternal City.

I had the pleasure of being in a choir in the 1990's at True Light MBC in Houston, Texas where Eleanor Brackins Lee is director and Mr. Burleigh was clinician. I had a solo part in his now famous, "Order My Steps." I am deeply grieved by his death. Our prayers are with the Burleigh family.

Friends to the end that's what we were. Brothers in the time of adversity. I want the world to know I loved you. And the world will know your music and your song, your melody lives on. Your rhythm and your rhyme will never die. With heart felt grief and a mournful heart I offer my condolences to the family for the passing of my mentor and my friend Glenn. God used him as a great inspiration in my life. I'm scoring gospel music for orchestra now because of the impact he has had on my life over the past 15 years. I'm so glad he wrote his music down so that history can give him his just do. He was a trend-setter, and if history is recorded accurately, children should read about him in their music textbooks for genearations to come.

Glenn was my mentor, teacher, inspiration, encourager and friend. I never knew that music could go so far until someone I knew took it around the world. I am saddened and will miss you always. However I praise God that you left so many pearls: Lay Aside Every Weight, If My People, Born To Die, Magnificat, Faithful Over A Few Things, Order My Steps, The Lord Is In His Holy Temple, Nia and so many more.
Love you much most.

My heart breaks for the gift that the global community has lost...my heart breaks for his family, especially, his brother, Kenneth. But with all of the heartwrenching pain we feel, all of us will always have a part of Glenn with us...in a very real way...through his gift of preaching the word through song...and writing it down for us for generations to come! Let's keep on singing it and teaching it to our children...because indeed, it is the Word of God! Thank God for sharing Glenn with us! Brother, I will never forget you!

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of this DIVINELY gifted, yet always humble musician and composer. Glenn blessed the Iowa/Illinois Quad Cities area in the 1980's and totally changed the course of gospel music in this area through his dynamic workshops. Songs like "Follow Me" , "We Shall Be Like Him" and "If Any Man Be in Christ" taught new music but more importantly taught scripture. It taught me the importance, as a musician, to always choose gospel music that has the foundation of the Word in it and music that praises and uplifts the name of Jesus. I thank Glenn Burleigh for touching my life by sharing his gifts with his brothers and sisters along the way. I know that many musicians, directors, pastors and all the rest of God's children in the IA/IL Q.C. area are thankful to him and will sorely miss him until we meet on the other side.

Truly we all were saddened by the lost of Glenn. His music is so electrifying. God used a marvelous servant to encourage and help so many of us, however, it is God who said Glenn you have finished your work. God Bless Glenn's family.

Glenn Burleigh was truly a gift from God. His musicianship, humanity, and spiritual qualities were only surpassed by his humility and genuine concern for others. I appreciate and glad that I had an opportunity to be a choir member under his leadership from 1975 and 1976 at Wildewood Baptist Church. While I was under his leadership, he helped me to develop my lead singing style. I lead more songs under his leadership that any other musician that I have worked with.
Glenn was the person who inspired my nephew to develop his piano and organ style. My nephew later became a musician and a minister of music and this is all because of Glenn Burleigh leadership.

Glenn will be missed dearly, but we are so thankful and BLESSED that the Lord allowed him to touch so many of our lives. He and his music will live on forever in our hearts, minds, choirs, music departments, etc.
I guess we could say that Glenn too as well as all of us were "Born to Die", but the blessing is that many of us one day, will see him again and I pray that will be all of us when our time on this earth is up.
I think it would be safe to say that the heavenly choir has gone a little bit higher with Glenn's presence!!!!!!

I cannot adequately put into words the magnitude of Glenn's influence on my life. I know I began to learn the Holy Scripture because of his songs' "text"....straight from the Word!!! He was beyond peer when it came to utilizing musical genres.......my life is much richer having met him.
God bless the Burleigh family.
