Ida Couch Obituary
Ida Mae Couch, 68, went to her home in Heaven on Wednesday, April 27, 2005. Ida was born on October 27, 1936 in Grandfield, OK to Rev. Robert L. James and Willie Lee (Taylor) James. Sister Couch accepted the Lord as her savior at an early age in Grandfield, OK. Her church memberships included the Rose Hill Baptist Church in Grandfield, OK, and Evangel Temple in Wichita Falls, TX. She united with the St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Oklahoma City in 1997. Ida realized her gift in working with children while employed with Head Start in Grandfield. She began her career as a child care assistant but quickly advanced to become the Director of the Child Development Center in Grandfield. Mrs. Couch (as she was affectionately called), touched many children in Grandfield, always encouraging them to be all they could be. She moved to Wichita Falls, TX in 1978, and was the Director of the Lamar Day Care Center with Child Care Incorporated until she retired in the early 1990's due to illness. She fulfilled her life's purpose in being an advocate for children and their families. While in Wichita Falls, she worked with many community-based agencies in an effort to meet the total needs of children and their families. Ida relocated to the OKC metro area in 1996 and purchased a home in Del City where she lived until her departure from this life. When asked what she wanted people to remember most about her, she replied 'that I tried to help children and their families through my work'. Also, Ida was most proud of her own family. She committed her life toward the success and well being of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cherishing her memory are 6 children: Maurice Couch (wife Dolores), Beverly Couch, Debra Johnson, Dee Couch; Michael Couch (wife Lori) and Greg Couch (wife Christy); 6 brothers: Raymon James, Jim James, Isaac James, Clarence James, David James, Lonnie James; 4 sisters: Willie White and Jerri Edmond, Wanda James, Mary Williams; 13 grandchildren,16 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
