I just found out about his passing, just breaks my heart. He was so incredible kind to me after my husband left me in a financial hardship. He purchased jewelry and ranch items from me so I could exist. I would have lost my home, if it weren't for him. I never in my life have received so much assistance, advice from a total stranger. He would call to check on me periodically. I just want to say how blessed I was to have known such a man.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Cavender Family. I did lots of real estate business with James that I got to know him well. He would share his stories with me of his humble beginnings.... He came to my business the first day I bought it from Jerry Elkins and gave me my first dollar and signed it for me. I still have it in a book shelf in my office. I look at it often and think of how he helped me buy this business from Jerry through his advice and actions. He was not going to see me fail. I am so very thankful to him to this day for all of his advice and direction. He was a legend in his own time and will continue to be a legend throughout the days of Texas and the South. He will be missed by the people from Bowie County. Again, I will always be grateful for his help, and, advice. Having grown up in Daingerfield, my family got to know James very well...... My dad, James Ramey used to go to market during the time he owned his first store in Pittsburg. My sister, Becky and i wrapped Christmas gifts the store every year during the school holiday break. James, until the day he past stayed in contact with my parents and would always wonder what the Daingerfield Ramey group were up to. Me, being the youngest had a huge crush an the Cavender boys but I never could decide which one was the best looking and besides I was too young. I have worn many of clothing and boots from Cavender's for many years. James was always a great friend to us all and we will greatly miss him. I know in my heart that the Ramey family will indeed see this man on the other side! Until then I will still wear my Cavender's brand with style! May James rest in peace until we meet again!

I am very greatful and very blessed that I had the opportunity to work for Mr. Cavender. He was a wonderful and kind boss. He will always be in my heart. It may seem odd but, he would always share a banana with me and say "it's good for your bones." (Always with a smile on his face) I am very sorry for your loss.

Tears and joy to your family, having experienced the loss of treasured souls but comfort that God embraces them forever. When Daddy would not take us to the Dairy Hart after Sunday night church, Joanne and I were so upset. And, your Daddy had the best frito pies when allowed to go to lunch off campus. Your special Dad was a true Texas celebrity with his outreach to others. Martha Acker Lorenz, daughter of Elton Acker

I've been a part of the Cavender retail family for only 1 1/2 years. But, I had the honor of meeting Mr. James Cavender at the stock yards store recently. It was a joy & privilege to meet the legend in person. I'm proud to work for and know the Cavender family. Mr. Cavender has left an incredible legacy of hard work and integrity.

I was in The Dairy Hart almost daily in the early 60's, as was most of the students in Pittsburg. The food was always good and James always made you feel appreciated. I still look back on those days of fond memories.
