Jeanne Ong Obituary

Jeanne Tien Sian Ong, 83, went to be with her Lord on January 4, 2009 in Oklahoma City. She was a clever, caring, generous and sacrificial mother who will be missed dearly. Jeanne thoroughly enjoyed cooking, classical dancing, and traveling abroad, learning more about different cultures. She traveled the world several times over, traveling extensively throughout Asia and Europe. Most of all, Jeanne loved spending time with her large family, especially with her husband of 61 years, John. Jeanne was born on February 26, 1925 in Muntilan, Indonesia, where she spent her childhood. She married John Sioe Tjiang Ong, the love of her life, on July 27, 1944. John was passionate and very involved in many different sports, and Jeanne was always there to support him. Later, many of their children and grandchildren would become athletic champions themselves. In 1968, John, Jeanne and their children immigrated to the United States, settling in Oklahoma City, where John worked as a physical therapist. Jeanne did whatever she could to help support their large family. While in Indonesia, Jeanne opened a flower shop called "Mimosa." After moving to America, Jeanne worked at Western Electric, as well as various restaurants and stores. She later owned and operated "Jeanne Ong Oriental Food" for five years. Lastly, Jeanne worked at A.T.&T. Technologies, retiring in 1990. Even after retirement, Jeanne continued her jewelry business. Jeanne was preceded in death by her loving husband, John, in 2005, two sons, Peter Ing Hoey Ong in 1970 and Rene Ing Jauw Ong in 1954, and one granddaughter, Andi Michelle Fitzgerald in 1993. Jeanne is survived by her nine children, Lian Njoo, Mei Ing Ong, Nokky Ratanasin and husband Tom, Nieka Harms and husband David, Billy Ong and wife Kathy, MO, Lanny Westbrook and husband Raman, Joe Ong, Irene Fitzgerald and husband Nick, Larry Ong and wife Diane, Indonesia twenty-one grandchildren, Peter Njoo and wife Monica, MO, Andrew Njoo and wife Teaona, Nicole Jackson, CA, Shawna Ong, Nick Ratanasin, CO, Chanika McLelland and husband Jarrett, AR, Bryan Ratanasin and wife Tayler, CO, Seyan Watts and husband Matt, Asia, Aaron Harms, Joshua Ong, MO, Tony Fine and wife Bethany, FL, Cody & Amber Awbrey, Bali Ong, Ryan, Taylor & Madison Fitzgerald, Jessica, Christopher, Brandon & Elizabeth Ong, Indonesia and seven great grandchildren, Kaitlyn & Matthew Njoo, Mackenzie & Hayden Njoo, Kaiya & Konli McLelland, and Lydia Watts. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 8, 2009 at First Baptist of Mustang, 928 N. Mustang Road, with a reception to follow.

We are so sorry to hear about the death of Mrs. Ong. She blessed both of us with beautiful rings to celebrate our marriage. We always think of her when we look at them. She was such a wonderful, sweet, Christian woman and she will be dearly missed.

I saw Mrs. Ong almost every day for the last several weeks as I visited her roommate Lou Stasser at Bellvue. I was impressed that she always thanked her caregivers for each small kindness shown. I met several of her daughters and each is a tribute to her mothering skills. I believe that her legs will be strong and she will be dancing again in heaven.

To Lian and Family
Your mother will truly be missed. She was a beautiful person. Her and your father. I loved to watch them dance. They always welcomed me into their home and most of the jewelry I wear, she made for me. Besides being the sweet person she was, she was very talented. We all will miss her. May God bless you all.

Irene & Family,
Eventhough we never had the honor of meeting Mrs. Ong,we know that she has one very special daughter. When reading the obiturary we learned of her life and her many accomplishments and I am sure that many of those accomplishments have become treasured memories.
Just know that you are in our prayers this day.

I have a million nice things to say about Jeanne. I'll say just this: Jeanne and John were always an inspiration to me as a child and as an adult. How do you compare anything to such a love as their's. To move on a monumental decision such as they did to a foreign land and set an example when they got here. Truly respectable. Amazing. I'm saddened by her passing and know they are flashing their bright smiles at each other now, in Heaven. They were proud of all of you. I know that. Sincerely with love, Michael Harris
