John Ingle Obituary

John Daniel Ingle, M.D. Dr. John Ingle, age 88, went home to our Lord and Savior on August 19, 2004. John was born in Altus, OK on January 17, 1916, to Rome and Effie Ingle. After graduation from Sayer High School, he attended Bethany Penile College (later Bethany Nazarene College, and now Southern Nazarene University) where he met fellow student and the love of his life Kittie Mae Stockett. They married in 1938. After 3 years at BPC, he attended University of Oklahoma School of Medicine, where he graduated in 1943. After completing his Internship at Wesley Hospital (now Presbyterian Hospital) in OKC, he served in the Army Medical Corp during WWII. He then completed his general surgery training at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He returned to OKC and established his medical practice in 1947 first in the Osler Building, and later in the Physicians and Surgeons Building. John and Kittie were members of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir for years, and the OKC Golf and Country Club. In addition he was a member of Oklahoma County Medical Society, the Oklahoma State Medical Association, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Doctor's Dinner Club, Academy of Medicine, and the Osler Society. He served as the President of the Oklahoma City Surgical Society, was the Chief of Surgery at St. Anthony Hospital, a Clinical Professor of Surgery at OU School of Medicine, and a staff member of St. Anthony's Hospital, Presbyterian Hospital, McBride Hospital, and Baptist Hospital. John was an avid golfer and OU football fan. He enjoyed quail hunting, fishing and traveling. His greatest joy came from being thankful to the Lord for enabling him to help so many people through his general surgery practice for over 50 years. John is survived by his 3 children, son John Daniel Ingle, Jr. and his wife Susan of Dallas, TX; son Joe Stephen Ingle and his wife Barbara of Tulsa, OK; and daughter Jane Ingle McCord and her husband Rick McCord of Houston, TX. Survivors also include 7 grandchildren, Carolyn Ingle Dierks and her husband Chris Dierks of Dallas, TX; Chris Ingle and his wife Susan Kirkpatrick Ingle of Denver, CO; Andrew Ingle of Norman, OK; Jeff Ingle of Tulsa, OK; Meredith McCord and Ryan McCord of Houston, TX, Anne McCord of San Francisco, CA. In addition, 3 great-grandchildren, Meredith, Megan, and Emily Dierks of Dallas, TX. John had many other surviving relatives. The family is grateful to Lois Stockett Brasher of Bethany, OK, John's sister-in-law, who provided wonderful assistance and faithful affection. Memorial services to celebrate his life will be officiated by Dr. Randall Spindle at the Chapel of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4400 N. Shartel, OKC, at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2004. In lieu of flowers, please send gifts to North Texas Presbyterian Cursillo, c/o George Platt, 621 Opal Lane, Richardson, Texas, 75080.

Dr. Ingle removed a malignant melanoma tumor from my neck 48 years ago today. That surgery saved my life. He provided my parents with remarkable guidance in the days that followed. I only interacted with him for those few weeks back when I was a 12-year-old boy. As a 60-year-grandfather, I´m immensely grateful to God for this good man´s life.

I respected and Admired John, and valued his competent opinion in problem caes during my Sugical youth. John was, of course, unique among Surgeons...he did beautiful work. I have missed him..Clarence Robison M.D. FACS

My mother, Ina Ingle Horner, was John's sister. Uncle John and Aunt Kittie visited us several times over the years, and it was my great privilege to get to know them. They were very kind and loving to me. One of my most precious memories of their visits is that of our hymn-sings. All of the Ingle's were great singers, and Uncle John was no exception. He, Mom, and I would sing nonstop as Dad and Aunt Kittie would select song after song. I know he and Mom are again singing a duet up in heaven.

Love,

Glenda Horner

Jane,

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this special time. I know your dad and Miss Kittie are having a wonderful reunion as they bask in the glory of God's grace and Love. It was truly a privilege for me to be able to take care of Miss Kittie and to get to know DR. Ingle. May God bless you and your brothers.
