MARY REINAUER FUNK Obituary

August 29, 1954 - January 7, 2014 OKLAHOMA CITY There has been much activity in heaven in recent days as God ordered all to prepare for a very special event. He summoned all the dogs, cats, horses, birds, and hamsters to his side. He told the dogs to sit, the birds to rest, the hamsters to stop playing, the horses to bow, and the cats, well, they could do whatever they want. He then chose His most majestic stallion and sent him to Mercy Hospital on Monday morning, January 7 at 10:30. One of his most wonderful creations was ready to come home. Held in the arms of the love of her life, Mary "Queenie" Reinauer-Funk took her last earthly breath and mounted that stallion. A chorus of angels sang. All the saints in heaven arrived for the welcome. And Mary rode gloriously through those gates to the cheers of joy from all the loved ones waiting for her. Among them were her father, John George Reinauer; her mother, Elma Allene Reinauer; her sister, Kathryn Freeman; and her brother, Johnny. Here on earth, those of us lucky enough to know and love Mary are having a harder time. We know she is not suffering, but we are. A gift like Mary is hard to return. She was married for 18 years to Matt Funk. She loved him so much she married him twice. With devotion and love, Matt has cared for Mary in recent years. In recent days, he has not left her side as she fought her final health battle. They had won all the others, and Matt desperately hoped they would win this one too. Mary will be with Matt forever, and Matt with Mary. The pride, heart, and soul of Mary are her children, Lisa, Jeff, Michael; and her two bonus boys, Luke and Taylor. In Mary's eyes, her kids are the moon and stars. Look up the word "pride" on your iPad and next to it you will see a picture of Mary pointing to a picture of her children. She saw in each of them the purest and greatest of things. They filled her with such joy, Mary never touched earth again, she simply floated on the love of her children for the rest of her life. The stories she loved to tell about them, and all the bragging she did! She had three grandbabies to tell the world about as well ... Addie, Ian, and Liam. The role of grandma-ma fit Mary like a glove. Nothing made her smile more than to see those grandbabies. Mary is also survived by her sisters: Johnna Reinauer Chamberlain, of La Manzanilla, Mexico; and Raddi Reinauer Warfield and her husband Buck. Raddi has been at Mary's side in Mercy these tough last days as well. Mary adored her many nieces and nephews, as they did their Aunt Queenie. She is also survived by her beautiful daughters-in-law, Emily and Tracy. Mary was born in OKC, attended Christ the King grade school and Bishop McGuinness high school. She went to OCU later in life, and with small kids at home, got her journalism degree in 2-1/2 years. She was a reporter for the Guthrie News Leader and covered everything from murder to drug dealing to cow tipping. She loved it. She also wrote the newsletter for World Neighbors. When she died, Mary was writing a novel about her childhood. Mary found her greatest peace at Oak Ridge, her father's farm. Her heart was open to all, humans and animals alike. She loved her dogs, cats, and horses. She loved to laugh and make others laugh ... and we did. She was so so funny. And sweet. But give her all the treasures of the world ... and she would give them all back in return for a fun evening with Matt, Lisa, Jeff, Michael, Taylor, and Luke. A Funeral Mass was held for Mary at Christ the King church on Thursday, January 9, and friends and family gathered for a Celebration of Her Life Friday night at Bricktown Brewery. We will miss you always, our dear Mary. Rest in peace, cowgirl.

I just read Mary's obituary in the Oklahoma Publisher. I attended UCO with Mary and we worked on the student newspaper, The Vista, together. This was about 1996 and she'd just started dating this guy named Matt Funk...
Mary and I lost touch sometime after college, but her sparkling writing style shines through in her obituary. She was a gem!

A true friend loves at All times.
That was Mary, since first grade she was a light in my life.
We used to stay the weekends
at her cool farm. Memories I hold dear to my heart. I told my sons and grandsons that Mary is the reason we live on a acerage to this day. Mary made
My childhood fun with adventures and horses and her
Love for animals. Your family is
In my daily prayers.

TO ADD VITALITY AND JOY TO YOUR LIFE REQUIRES MORE THAN PROPER EXERCISE AND HEALTHY FOOD- IT REQUIRES REAL FRIENDS...NINA SMIT. A QUOTE THAT REMINDS ME OF MARY. MARY WAS A REAL FRIEND FROM FIRST GRADE ON, NEAR OR FAR. I PRAY FOR COMFORT TO BE GIVEN TO HER FAMILY AND ALL WHO LOVED HER SO DEARLY.

To Mary's Family,

I was fortunate to have gone to grade school at Christ the King and then later at Bishop McGuinness high school with Mary. I haven't had any contact with her since graduation with the exception of a high school reunion, but I will always remember that sunny disposition and great smile. What a very open and expressive person. I never knew anyone who didn't like her. I did not realize she had serious health issues. Much too early for her to leave us.
“Remember me and smile, for it's better to forget than to remember me and cry.”
May God bless Mary and her family. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
