NICHOLAS FORTUNE

January 27, 1912-September 18, 2013 OKLAHOMA CITY Nicholas Albin Fortune claimed to have been hatched on a flat rock in Foraker, Oklahoma on January 27, 1912, born to Mamie and Tony Fortune and the middle child of seven brothers and sisters. He was also the much beloved adopted son of Amelia Girard and grandson of Pop and Dada Girard. God showed him the way to go home on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. He is survived by his sister, Amelia, daughter, Deborah Fortune, grandchild, Daria Fortune and great-grandson, Nicholas Fortune of Oklahoma City, nieces, Markie Orf and Melodie Osburn and many other nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Glo Dale Elizabeth Fortune, on August 7, 2004. Nick served in the US Army in World War II, and it gave him many wonderful stories to tell. He loved his work in the oil industry as a salesman for both Continental EMSCO and Wilson Supply and shared many fond memories with his family. He had a rich and fulfilling life, close to his family and doting on his great-grandson, was a brilliant, playful and charming storyteller, whose favorite response to any question posed was "If you're sure you don't know, I'll tell you!" Nick loved to work in his wood shop and was a true master of repair, able to fix anything, sometimes if it wasn't even broken. Evening prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, at Smith and Kernke Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2013, at St. Eugene's Catholic Church, 2400 W. Hefner Road. Burial will follow. We love you Pop, keep on singing your song.
