Norman Jacobs Obituary

May 21, 1931 - Dec. 14, 2011 SEVIERVILLE, TN - OKLAHOMA CITY Norman L. Jacobs, age 80, died Wednesday at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City after a short battle with lung cancer.Norman is survived by his wife, Ginny Gill Jacobs of Sevierville, Tennessee; four children: Daughter, Paula and husband Boyd Walker of Tahlequah; daughter, Cheryl and husband Duke Logsdon of Mangum; son, Scott and wife Susan Meacham of Edmond; and son, Greg and wife Kelley Meacham of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren: Joanne and husband Ricky Patrick of Tahlequah; Tim and wife Ruth Jones of Altus; Trevor Pletcher of Ogden, Utah; Evan Meacham of Norman; Kady Pletcher of Marion, KY; Lucas Meacham of Edmond; Conner, Morgan and Seth Meacham, all of Oklahoma City; four great-grandchildren: Preston and Brayden Patrick of Tahlequah; Riley Grace Jones of Altus; and Steven Alexander, Jr. ("SJ") of Marion, KY.Norman was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served in the Army National Guard and Army as a Ranger and Paratrooper between Nov. 1947 to March 1953. During this service he earned several medals, including the Army Occupation Medal (Japan), United Nations Service Metal, Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Campaign Star and the Combat Infantry Badge. He grew up in Clinton, Oklahoma, the only son of Theodore Roosevelt Jacobs and Oben Stewart Jacobs. Norman was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Carol Attebery. As a young man, he traveled the rodeo circuit, where he loved riding bareback, bulls and saddle broncs with Jim Shoulders, Freckles Brown and Ben Johnson. He established a construction business, where he built many homes in the Clinton, Elk City, Chickasha, and Oklahoma City areas. He took pride in his craftsmanship and attention to detail in making a house a home. His success in life can be attributed to his work ethic, strength of character and his love of family and friends. After retirement Norman and Ginny moved to Tennessee, where he loved the peace, tranquility and beauty of the Smokey Mountains.A memorial service will be held this Friday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Crossings Community Church.

Dear Paula and Cheryl, though we had lost contact years ago, we often thought with such pleasant memories of our "old" friends and former neighbors oh so many years ago in Clinton.
