PATRICK SULLIVAN Obituary

September 14, 1927 - March 21, 2018 DUNCAN Patrick D. "Pat" Sullivan, age 90, died Wednesday, the 21st day of March 2018, in Duncan, OK. Funeral Services will be conducted at the First Christian Church in Duncan at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, with the Reverend Arnold Nelson officiating. Services are under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. Graveside Services to follow at the City of Duncan Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Don Grantham Funeral Home. Pat was born in Duncan, OK on the 14th day of Sept. 1927, to Paul D. Sullivan, Sr. and Annie Mae Dellis Sullivan. Pat moved from Duncan to Norman, OK when he was 12 years of age, where he lived for one year, and then moved to Oklahoma City, where he attended Harding Junior High School and then attended Classen High School for two years. He returned to Duncan during his senior year and graduated from Duncan High School in 1945. After graduating from high school, he attended The University of Oklahoma at Norman, OK, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949 and his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1951, which was later superseded by a Juris Doctor degree. He was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Social Fraternity as well as the Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity. Pat and Charlene Schick Sullivan were married on Aug. 6, 1950, in Duncan, OK before his senior year in law school and they had three children, Patrick Kelly Sullivan, Kay Lyn Sullivan and Scott Patrick Sullivan. He graduated from the United States Air Force Reserve Officer Training program at Oklahoma University and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force. After practicing law for a year in Duncan, he was called into the U.S. Air Force in 1952 during the Korean War and was immediately ordered to attend the Judge Advocate General Course at The Air Force University Command and Staff School at Maxwell Air Force Base at Montgomery, AL. After graduation, he was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX in the Judge Advocate General's department, where he served his country for approximately two years before returning to Duncan, OK. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force Reserve with the rank of captain. He practiced law in the military and in Duncan, OK for a total of 57 years. He was a founding partner in the law firm of Leach & Sullivan with William O. Leach and Paul D. Sullivan, Jr., which firm continues to be known as Leach & Sullivan. He retired from this firm and the practice of law on Dec. 31, 2008. He was a member and served as President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a former member and secretary of the Kiwanis Club. He was a member and served as the Exalted Ruler of the Duncan Elks Lodge as well as in all other official offices and positions, including a member of the Board of Trustees for six years. He also was a member and former President of the Stephens County Bar Association and a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He was a member of the American Legion Post #55 for many years. He served on the Board of Directors and as General Legal Counsel and Corporate Secretary and as Treasurer of Universal Fidelity Life Insurance Company for a total of 33 years until it was merged into another company. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Patrick Kelly Sullivan; his brother, Paul D. Sullivan, Jr.; and his sisters, Mercedes Sullivan Curry and Frances Sullivan Dunbar. He is survived by his wife, Charlene, of the home; his daughter, Kay Lyn Sullivan, of Duncan; and his son, Scott Patrick Sullivan and wife, Denise Stanley Sullivan, and a granddaughter, Delaney Claire Sullivan, all of Oklahoma City; as well as a sister-in-law, Helen Frances Sullivan; and many nieces and nephews. Local nephews and former law partners are Michael P. Sullivan and Kent P. Sullivan. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Stephens County Museum or to a charity of choice.
