PATSY KING Obituary

June 8, 1922 - March 30, 2015 OKLAHOMA CITY Patsy Irene (Eskridge) King was born in Oklahoma City on June 8, 1922, and died in Oklahoma City March 30, 2015. Better known as Magoo by her family and grandchildren's friends, she was the consummate mother, always ready with help and advice for everyone. Her loving, forthright approach to life will be greatly missed by her family and friends, and her deep faith will continue to serve as an inspiration for all. She started each day with Psalm 118:24: "This is the day the Lord has made; "We will rejoice and be glad in it." and tried to live her life accordingly. A Kappa Alpha Theta at The University of Oklahoma, she was also a member of Mortar Board National Honor Society. She married Arthur Ellis King, Jr. in 1942 and began her family in Oklahoma City soon after World War II ended. Pat's civic involvements were extensive and numerous: Junior League of Oklahoma City; United Way, where she served as chairman of the home campaign for several years; World Neighbors, which her husband Art and she were among the founding members; Young Life; and so many others. She gave her life to Jesus at a revival in the 1950s, and helping others love and find Christ became a major focus of her life. She taught third and fourth grade Sunday School at Crown Heights United Methodist Church for years and was one of the first teachers of the Disciple Bible Class at Church of the Servant. But Pat's real love was her large extended family. She adored all her nieces and nephews and served as an additional mother to many of them, imparting words of wisdom or cooking tips, depending upon the circumstances. Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Art King; parents, Frankie and Dr. J.B. Eskridge, Jr.; brothers, Dr. J.B. Eskridge III, Edward Allen Eskridge, and Richard Garrett "Tim" Eskridge; and great-grandchildren, Maggie and Howie Bruder. She is survived by her daughters, Franci Hart, Genie King, Kathleen King, and Patsy Hosman and husband Tom; grandchildren, Bill and Libbey Hart, Jamie and Irving Birkner, Wendy and Eric Dunlap, Caroline and Johnny Bruder, Holly, Tommy, and Jane Hosman; great-grandchildren, Claire and Mae Hart, Sam and Ellis Birkner, Ada Dunlap, Annie, Teddy, and Molly Bruder; and numerous adoring nieces and nephews. The family expresses deepest gratitude to Rosalie, Pam, and Mariana for the excellent care they gave their mother and to Ross Hospice for the support provided during her final days. Services will be on Friday, April 10, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Church of the Servant at 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd., Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Regional Food Bank, Infant Crisis Center, or the charity of one's choice.
