MauldinJuly 26, 1941 - April 20, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Richard A. "Rick" Mauldin, 70, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, April 20, 2012, at Southwest Medical Center, surrounded by his family. A service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 23rd at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Pastor Doug Melton will be officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Rick was born July 26, 1941, in Oakland, California, to E.D. "Stick" & Zula Mae Mauldin. He graduated from Classen High School in 1959. Rick was drafted into the Army in 1963 and served with the Army Chief of Staff at the Pentagon during the Vietnam conflict. On March 4, 1967, he married Peggy Davis Niles and her children, Sherri and Michael, in Oklahoma City. He was an incredible stepdad, and in 1970, their son, Dane, was born, which completed their immediate family. Rick was one of those rare individuals that made everyone he encountered smile with his sense of humor. He also developed lasting working relationships with co-workers and his customers. Rick continued to work up until his passing at Oilfield Specialty Inc., where he provided services to his many friends at Southwest Electric. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed going to the movies and spending time with his Encouragers Sunday school class at Southern Hills, where he was a longtime member. As their weekly "M.C.," Rick delighted their class with his quick wit and infectious humor. He spent most of his weekends with Peggy, his children and grandchildren. Gramps especially liked taking the kids to get ice cream at Braum's and will be deeply missed. Rick was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Mauldin. He is survived by stepmother, Opal Mauldin of Calvin, OK; half-brother, Robert Singleton and wife Tammy of Columbia, SC; stepbrother, Don Wilkes and wife Cheryl of Richardson, TX; sister-in-law, Carol Mauldin of Muskogee, OK; his wife, Peggy, of the home; son and family, Dane & Sara, Allyson, Rachel and Olivia; daughter and family, Sherri & Charlie Butler, Damon, Christopher and wife Tammy, Ryan, Bridget and husband Brian, and Shane; son and family, Mike & Kay Niles, Stephanie, Jason and wife Jessica, Sarah and husband P.J., Larah and Bradley; eight great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family. If desired, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Encouragers Closet & Pantry at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.
