Robert Campbell Obituary

Robert Beacher Campbell of Oklahoma City passed away on Monday, January 18, 2010 after a long and blessed life. He was born on August 31, 1931 in Abilene, Texas to William Jennings Campbell and Clytie Pearl (Stevenson) Campbell. He started attending Bethany Peniel College in 1951 but the pursuit of his education was interrupted by his call to serve in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Korea from 1952 to 1954. After his discharge he returned to Oklahoma City where he met the love of his life, Phyllis Virginia Fisher. They were married on August 18, 1958 at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. The couple moved to Dallas, Texas where he completed his education graduating in 1960 from the Dallas Institute - Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Service. He is survived by Phyllis, his wife of 51 years; son Craig Campbell and wife Linda of Brecksville, OH and their children Lauren, William, Evan and Michael; daughter Dana Campbell of Sachse, TX and her children Callie , Delaney and Caisy; brother Bill M. Campbell and his wife Robbie of Oklahoma City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bonnie (Campbell) Hill and Margaret Janelle (Campbell) Nice Holden. Bob had many interests, but his life was his family and his church. As the son of a Nazarene minister, he tried to fulfill his calling to be a devoted "servant of God" in all that he did. He and his family attended Trinity Church of the Nazarene where he served faithfully for over 40 years in various capacities including board member and Sunday School Superintendent. His choices in life were based on his overwhelming desire to serve. As a funeral director, he felt he was able to minister to others and provide comfort in a time of need. He sought to live out his faith in everything he did and with everyone he met. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, January 22, 2010 at Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Oklahoma City with interment to follow at Bethany Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Society of America or the Children's Department at Trinity Church of the Nazarene. I was privileged to be acquainted with Mr. Campbell for several years. He always had a big smile on his face and a firm handshake when we would meet, both professionally and at occasional church functions. I know he will be missed by many, many people. I am one of them. May God's peace and grace be with all the family.
