Sally Jones Obituary
Sally Sue Harrison Jones, was born June 22, 1933, to Roy Stanley Harrison and Mildred Elizabeth Porter Harrison, in Tulsa. She died Jan. 4, 2006, in Edmond, after a brief illness. In her latter years, some of her fondest childhood memories were from her school days at Monte Casino and weekend visits to the family farms at Bixby. Sally was a member of the Creek Indian tribe and was a descendant of Chief Pleasant Porter, who was a Creek Indian Chief and a onetime leader of the Five Civilized Tribes of Oklahoma. At Tulsa University, she earned a degree in Journalism and it was there that she met and later married the eternal love of her life, Arthur L. Jones. Sally was truly an angel God placed here on earth. She was a devoted wife, loving Mother, and was the kindest person to all she knew or anyone she met. A Guthrie resident since 1968, Sally was a retired teacher. For nearly three decades, she taught second grade and kindergarten at Millwood School in Okla. City. She loved all of her students and they returned their love to her in hugs, drawings, and pictures. Sally taught numerous students that went on to become athletes and other professionals. She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Guthrie, where she was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Altar Guild, and a permanent member of the church choir, where she loved to sing. After her husband's passing, she met another caregiver and friend, Mrs. Doretha Hamlin, and she and Doretha continued to attend weekly morning church prayer services and had other adventures until Sally's sudden and brief illness and death. Sally Jones is survived by her four children, Melinda of Edmond, Mony of Oklahoma City, Mike and his wife, Debbie of Wilson, Texas, and Mona of the home. Her grandchildren are Matt and Jamie Manoles of Oklahoma City, Adam Manoles of Edmond, and Katie and Will Jones of Wilson, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins also survive her. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Hilary Elizabeth Harrison. Her beloved husband, Art, passed away on September 19, 2004. A service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2006, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Guthrie, with the Rev. Mary Lucia Walker officiating. Interment will be at Seward Cemetery. Pallbearers are Bud Crawford, Adam Manoles, Matt Manoles, James O'Neal, Bill Settle, and Joe Bill Woody. Honorary pallbearers are John Burch, Bennie Dutcher, Dick Lyne, Kenton Stout, Mony Paul Woody and Steve Woody.
