SHIRLEY ALBIN Obituary
September 26, 1946 - November 24, 2013 DUNCAN Shirley Earlene Albin passed away on November 24, 2013, surrounded by those who loved her. She was born on September 26, 1946, in Lynwood, CA to Earl and Louis Shelton. She was the third of nine children and embraced her humble beginnings with great pride and was passionate about her role as caretaker to her younger siblings. She graduated from Lindsay High School, and during her senior year, she met the love of her life, Larry Albin, and a true love story began with a marriage following shortly thereafter in February of 1964. To this blessed union, her two children were born, and she found joy beyond belief nurturing her family. She touched so many lives with her acts of kindness that not only extended to her husband, children and family but also to anyone who might be in need of a kind act or kind words of encouragement. Her generosity was immense and her selflessness touched so many lives. She found her real calling in life once her grandchildren were born. Known as Yea-Yea, the room in her home and heart grew with the birth of each grandchild. She simply adored each and every one of them and took great pleasure in spending time with them. Shirley had an entrepreneurial spirit and enjoyed building strong business and personal relationships and being involved in the family businesses. She had many friendships that spanned decades and went as far back as their days of Larry's military service in the 1960s. More importantly, she too had great pleasure in sharing in the joyful events of her friends' and family's lives. She loved holidays and sharing these days with family, especially Christmas Eve and Independence Day. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Teka Rhodes; her father-in-law, Clifford Albin; and her mother-in-law, Beulah Albin. She is survived by her husband, Larry, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Don Weaks, of Duncan; son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Meredith Albin of Duncan. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren, Tyler Albin, Katy Weaks, Bryce Albin, Preston Weaks, Ellis Albin, and Vivienne Albin; and siblings: Carol Haines, of Sherman, TX; Bob Shelton and his partner Terry, of Lafayette, CA; Tommy Shelton and his wife Sandy, of Lindsay, OK; Sandy Williams and husband Jack, of Lindsay, OK; Naaman Shelton, Donna Dyches and husband Heyward, of Sherman, TX; and Pat Shelton and wife Mary Ann, of Junction City, KS. She was blessed by many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews as well. She thoroughly enjoyed the friendship of Susana Sanchez during her later years and Buddy, her faithful dog and companion. Additionally, Larry and Shirley were also blessed to have several special friends that helped them enjoy life during the good times and the bad. Shirley loved life, and everyone who met her knew what a kind spirit she had. She especially loved rooting for OSU Cowboys at football and basketball games, visiting the lake with family, RVing with special friends, and playing (and cheating at) board games with her grandchildren. A memorial celebration of her life is scheduled for Wednesday, November 27 at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Duncan, with the Reverend Arnold Nelson officiating, and under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. There is no visitation scheduled at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to a charity that was near to Shirley's heart, Food for Kids, P.O. Box 270968, Oklahoma City, OK 73137; and specify for Duncan.
