STEPHEN HUGHES

June 6, 1974 - May 11, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Stephen Tyler Hughes, 37, passed away on May 11, 2012. He was born June 6, 1974, in Oklahoma City, OK to Bill and Bonnie Hughes. Stephen graduated from Westmoore High School in 1992 and attended the University of Central Oklahoma. Stephen worked at UCO as a student darkroom tech in the latter 90s and then again as a grad student. Stephen received his Bachelor of Arts in Journalism/ Photographic Arts in 2000. He won the Outstanding Service to the Mass Communication Dept. award for the years 2005-2006. Stephen was awarded his Master's in Education in 2007. During his time at UCO, Stephen was an instructor of multiple photography classes until he left in 2010. In January 2011, Stephen Hughes and Ashley Smith founded the gallery, Brass Bell Studios, where he was highly involved in the art and bicycle community. During his life, his interests included photography, bicycling, and skateboarding. Stephen had a generous, loving heart, was an avid animal lover and enjoyed life to the fullest. He had an abundant amount of friends, always had a smile on his face and made a significant impact on the community and everyone he met. Stephen was preceded in death by his father, William O. Hughes, III; grandfather, Paul E. Scott; and paternal grandparents, Frances and William O. Hughes, II. He is survived by his grandmother, Loretta Scott; mother, Bonnie Hughes; sister, Shannon Williams, and nieces, Brookelyn and Lauren; sister, Cheri Hughes, and brother-in-law, Matthew Ross - all of OKC; daughter, Zoie Atwell of Yukon; and girlfriend, Ashley Smith of OKC. Services will be held at Brookwood Baptist Church, 8921 S. Walker Ave., OKC, Saturday, May 19, 2012, at 10 a.m.
