Jana Jo Hughes

Jana Jo Hughes (née Reed), aged 73, passed away on March 28, 2026, in Norman, Oklahoma. Born on March 11, 1953, in Walters, Oklahoma, Jana was known for her beautiful spirit, kindness, and conscientious nature. She was a diligent worker throughout her life, dedicating over 26 years as an Administrative Assistant to the Sheriff of Harris County, Texas, from September 1980 until her retirement in February 2007.

Jana was a proud alumna of Walters High School and furthered her education at Cameron University. Her love for her alma mater was matched by her enthusiasm for the Oklahoma Boomer Sooners and the Dallas Cowboys, which were her favorite sports teams.

Jana leaves behind a loving family, including her daughter Tina Hughes Nunn and husband Robby Nunn of Norman, Oklahoma. Brother J’Rhon and sister-in-law Ellen Reed of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and sister-in-law Charlotte Reed of Walters, Oklahoma. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many friends who were like family. She was especially grateful for the care of her loving companion Phil Hensley of Norman, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Sam Hughes, her mother Barbara Nell Reed, her father John William Reed, and her brother Scotty Reed.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Walters Cemetery at 261053 Hwy 5 in Walters, OK. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at the Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home, 202 East Colorado, Walters, OK in the Chapel. This will be followed by a celebration of Jana's life from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Backyard, 601 West Eufaula Street, Norman, OK 73069.
