I have known Doc since we were 13yrs old. We were close back then, hung out at each other's homes, went to Homecoming with him Sophmore year and then watched his amazing career and re-connected with him in 2004 when he won his 1st battle with cancer. Have talked every week since then, even this past Christmas Day.
We knew Doc Williams, the man and was so proud of his success as an athlete. He truly was my brother, one that we all that knew him, will miss so much, but will celebrate his life.

I got to meet Dr Death Steve Williams at a show in Shreveport LA a few years back. We talked for a little while and it felt like I had known him all my life. He was just that type of man who never met a stranger. We will miss you Doc. When Tom told me he was writing your book I said great you are working with one of the best and a legend. Love ya Doc

December 31, 2009

I only met Steve a coupla of times in Texas and Las Vegas but he was such a good person to talk to--He had more than his share of problems but he met it head on, just like he did as a pro-wrestler-Our business is a bit worse for him being gone-but Heaven is a bit better.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I just want to share a story about Steve that I feel everyone should hear.

Not only was he a great OU player but he had a heart the size of a watermelon!

I took my son to an OU spring game several years ago and Steve showed up at the game, as many of the alumni do.

As the players were warming up, some of the stars would come to the edge of the stands to give autographs.

My son was trying his best to get some of these players autographs, but he was only 7 years old and short and the older kids kept pushing him out of the way to get the players autograph. My son was able to get a few, but kept missing out on most.

At one point, an OU player came to the sideline to give his autograph and my son saw him headed towards the sideline and took off, reaching the sideline even before the player did. He was the first kid there, and was just sure he would get this autograph.

I was off to his side and could see everything that transpired. Steve was standing back behind the player a ways, watching what was going on.

About the time the player reached the sideline, so did 50 other older kids... again, pushing my son aside and getting the players autograph. After about 10 autographs, the player abruptly walkwed away.

I was looking at Steve Williams when the player quit giving autographs, and I saw the most painful expression come across Steves face as he was looking towards the group of kids who were now dispersing. I looked towards my son again.

I could see the look of dejection as tears ran off my son's little face.

Steve also saw my son crying (thus the painful expression I had seen) and he came to the sideline and called out to him.

Curiosity got the best of me and I walked down to see what he would say to my son.

Other kids came running back up, but he asked them all to back off and let my son have his space.

He said..."hello there little buddy, do you know who I am?" Of course my son had no idea who he was, and told him "no".

Steve then told him, "They call me Dr. Death and I used to play football here at OU, would you like my autograph?"

My son lit up like a Christmas tree! Steve gave him his autograph...

To Michael, from your friend Steve "Dr. Death" Williams.

That one autograph was all he talked about for weeks.

When we got home, he wanted me to look him up online and show him all the stories about him. He wanted to know everything he could about this OU great!

That day, Steve "Dr. Death" Williams went to the very top of my list of great OU heros!

I kept thinking that one day I would run into Steve again and I would thank him for being so kind to my son. Unfortunately, I never had that opportunity.

When we think of heros, we tend to think of touchdowns and game winning plays... Steve knew that there is a lot more to being a hero than those things, and he showed it in the way he conducted and shared in the celebrity of his life.

Thank you Steve!

My condolences to the Williams family.

Boomer Sooner!

My condolences goes out to your family.

Ever since the DOC was introduced into pro-wrestling, I enjoyed watching all his matches while he was with UWF, USWA, Mid-South, WCW and WWE. I am deeply saddened and the fact that both sports had lost a great legend.

I remember going to a show, and when we were pulling into the parking lot, we were stopped by security, so this other car could pull into the venue. When I looked, it was Dr. Death in the front, passenger's side of the vehicle. He gave us a "thumbs up" sign, which I have bragged about since that time. I was only 10 or 11 at the time, but the "thumbs up" has been a big part of my life since then. My entire family and I were saddened by the passing of Dr. Death...we feel like we've lost one of our own. God bless you, Doc!!

My husband, Neal and I were the dorm parents for the OU football team when the Wilkinson Dorm first opened in 1978. We had moved to Norman from Denver, and since Steve and his brother Jeff were from the Denver area, we felt a particular bond with them and struck up a friendship with both brothers. Steve was a massive, strong man, but possessed a gentle spirit. We are shocked and saddened to hear of his untimely death. Our love and hearts go out to his family.
