Suzanne Charney Obituary

The stage is dark and she's made her last curtain call. Suzanne Charney completed her long running performance (born 12/17/1923) with courage, determination, humor and grace on September 2, 2008. Born in New York City, she lived in Los Angeles before moving to Oklahoma City. Suzanne was cast in hundreds of roles. She and her family were most proud of her roles as wife of 41 years with Dr. L.H. Charney mother to Dr. Marc Charney and his wife, Linda grandmother to Josiah Charney and his fiance, Lauren Spoon, and Jacob Charney and his fiance, Carly Messick sister to Doris Freistat (Beverly Hills, CA) aunt to Dr. Michael and Debbie Freistat cousin to Harold and Yolanda Charney (Owasso), David, Randee, Rebecca and Elliot Charney (Tulsa), Bill and Amy Schnitz (OKC) and Elizabeth Hennick (Kansas City). Of course an actress is only as great as her directors and castmates. Suzanne was supported and loved by an epic group of friends and family. She wanted Bill and Billie Thrash, Jane Hall, Charlotte Franklin, Mary Owens, and Jackie West to know how much she loved them. She cherished and appreciated all of the actors and directors she shared the stage with, notably, Rhonda Clark, Renee' and Nick Preftakes, Doobie Potter and all her theatre-family members. Suzanne was blessed with loving family and friends and she was able to share her last hours with Sidney and Markie Schnitz, Margaret Schnitz, Becky and Jim Ivins, and Emily Ivins. She was honored and fortunate to have maintained her life-long friendships with Frannie Geist (Los Angeles) and Evie Gross (Pompano Beach, FL). Suzanne lived a life of service. She was president of Temple B'nai Israel Sisterhood (1961-63), President of St. Anthony's Volunteer League (1972-73), Board Member of Carpenter Square Theatre, and a Red Cross Volunteer. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ralph Ganick, Carol, and Dr. William Cook for their dedication and caring expertise Odyssey Healthcare staff Amber, Carri, Kelly and Michelle for their sensitive support and a heart-felt "thanks" to Paige Nuss, who helped Suzanne for twenty years. In lieu of flowers, the family invites Suzanne's friends to memorialize her life with donations to Carpenter Square, Temple B'nai Israel, St. Anthony's, the American Red Cross or the charity of your choice. Service at one o'clock, Friday, September 5, at Hahn-Cook Street & Draper, 6006 NW Grand Blvd. Burial and graveside service at Fairlawn Cemetery, 2700 N. Shartel Ave., OKC.

Lou would often take me fishing on his favorite lake South of Norman. What a wonderful friend and mentor he was to me. He always spoke so sweetly of Suzanne.
