Elmer D. Rittenberry, age 92, passed away on May 4, 2025, in La Grange, Ky. He was born on December 31, 1932, in Raccoon Valley, Tenn., to the late John A. and Vinnie (Kelly) Rittenberry.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Jackie, Jimmy and Michael; three brothers, Raymond, Wayne and Alvin Rittenberry; and three sisters, Helen Dixon, Betty Shawn and Virginia Powell.
At the age of 18, Elmer moved from Tenn. to Detroit, Mich. where he secured a job at General Motors. Shortly after his employment, he was drafted in the United States Army where he served in Bamberger, Germany. Upon the completion of his military service, he returned to General Motors where he had a successful career and eventually retired after 37 years of service. He then moved back to his hometown of Knoxville, Tenn., built a house on Norris Lake and began his retirement. During the winter months, Elmer would travel to Okeechobee, Fla., where he continued to pursue his love of fishing and where he also met his wife, Betty of almost 25 years. Elmer moved to Ky. and enjoyed his final years living in La Grange, along with his loving and devoted wife Betty.
Elmer is survived by his wife Betty; two stepdaughters, Brenda McKinney (Phil) and Sheila Doyle (Pat); and his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held to celebrate his life and his journey to be with his eternal Father on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at noon at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home in La Grange. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday evening from 4-8 p.m. A private burial will be at Louisville Memorial Garden East, Louisville, Ky.
