Ronald Brooking, 86
Crestwood
Ronald Brooking of Crestwood, Ky. entered eternal rest on Feb. 4, 2023. Ron was a loving husband, father, grandfather, neighbor and friend, admired by all who knew him.
Ron was born on Aug. 10, 1936, in Pekin, Ill. and later moved to Texas and Ohio where he finished high school. He attended Wittenberg University and received his BS in Chemistry from Bradley University.
His entire career was spent in the food industry with time at Pabst Brewing, Standard Brands, Griffith Labs and Quaker Oats, where everyone who worked with him would simply say he was one of the best.
As a father and grandfather, Ron was always everyone's favorite cheerleader and supporter. He never missed an opportunity to support activities like magic shows, horses, football, track, cross-country, band competitions, choir concerts and even recently his grandson's electrical wiring competition.
He and his wife Judy enjoyed doting on the family, arranging large family vacations, usually on a beach or Disney, and the family Christmas celebrations, carefully planned for months leading up to it, opening presents lasting for hours, followed up with always amazing meals and desserts.
Besides a fantastic career in the food industry, he was proud of lots of community service through working in various roles within the school systems in Indiana, being a volunteer EMT and generally lending a hand to anyone he could.
Preceding him in death was Judy, his beloved wife of 52 years at the time of her passing. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Lisa Hornbeck (Doug) of Rensselaer, Ind., Mike (Lisa) of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Andy (Lisa) of Crestwood Ky.; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at Stoess Funeral Home in Crestwood with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be Friday Feb. 10 from 3-7 p.m. and noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday Feb. 11.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to one of Ron's favorite charitable organizations, where he and Judy rescued many of their four-legged friends; Animal Care Society, 12207 Westport Road, Louisville, KY 40245. Condolences may be made online at
