Barbara Bowen Obituary
Born on July 2, 1937, in Olean General Hospital, she was a daughter of Woodrow W. Swartz, who predeceased her Nov. 5, 1987, and Lula B. Hadley Swartz, who predeceased her June 20, 2003. On April 19, 1958, in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Olean, she married Barton F. Bowen, who predeceased her April 3, 2002.
Barbara was a 1956 graduate from Portville Central School. She loved taking care of her family and her home. Barbara also enjoyed her flower garden, and she loved to dance and have fun.
Barbara is survived by two sons, Bryan F. Bowen of Olean and Brad S. (Laurie) Bowen of California; a daughter, Brenda M. Bowen of Friendship; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Jonathan, Alex and Kayli of California, Melissa Bowen of Portville and Eli Bowen of Florida; two sisters, Shirley Brahaney of Ohio and Nancy (Jim) Warner of Portville and Florida; three brothers, Merle (Sharon) Swartz of Portville, David (Sherry) Swartz of Florida and Jerry (Mary) Swartz of Allegany; and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was predeceased by a son, Bruce Bowen, on June 15, 2008; a brother, Richard Swartz, in December 2007; and a sister-in-law, Barb Costello, on March 5, 2009.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home Inc., 24 Genesee Parkway, Cuba, and Thursday (Aug. 21, 2014) from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev. Steven Devine will officiate. Burial will be at Obi Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hart Comfort House, 141 E. State St., Wellsville, NY 14755. Online condolences may be made at www.LetroMcIntoshSpinkFuneralHome.com.

To The Most Beautiful, Loving, Kind and Sweet Mother That A Son Could Ever Ask For! It's been a long time Mom, and I'm so so so so sorry that I couldn't be there for you in person in your last days and going through all the pain you that you had. I have such detailed memories of you and Dad, Bryan, Brenda, Bruce and Blondie (she was always there protecting you Mom!). Thank-you for visiting Laurie and I and the kids in San Diego, that was a very special day indeed and the kids always bring it up and LOVE YOU SO MUCH! May you be sitting in Heaven having a glass of wine with everyone you love so much and cared for with all your heart and soul! You made many many sacrifices for us Mom and I'll never forget that, never ever. See you soon, your loving son Brad. God bless you all!

My beloved Grandma Bowen meant a great deal to me. Having Barbara live a great distance away took a tole on me, I always wanted to be close with My father's family. However, being able to hear and converse with my Grandma during holidays and special occasions meant more to me then she'll know. I am at a loss of words now that I am unable to speak with my Grandma at the touch of a dial, but I know she'll still be listening whenever I want to talk. I love you Grandma Bowen, you are in my prayers.
