Calvin W. Raines

OLEAN -- Calvin W. Raines, 78, passed away Tuesday (September 2, 2025) at Olean General Hospital after a long illness.

Born May 26, 1947, in Olean, he was the son of Kenneth and Helen Winters Raines. On October 31, 1993, he married Deborah Cowles, who survives.

Calvin attended Olean High School and earned a degree in criminal justice from Jamestown Community College.

He went on to work at Loretta Foods and M. Wile in Buffalo. After 30 years, he retired from Dresser Rand in Olean.

In his free time, he enjoyed Dungeons and Dragons, World of Warcraft, Sand Table Wars with his friends, target shooting, writing lyrics and sci-fi stories, and playing the drums in the garage with his buddies.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two close friends, Aaron Firth of St. Mary's, PA, and Scott McDonald of Dallas, TX.

He was predeceased by his parents and an uncle, Christian Winters.

No services are being scheduled, and a private gathering will be held at the family's convenience.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig, and Hartle Funeral Home.
