D. Michael Church

ALMA - D. Michael Church, 71, of 6326 County Road 18, passed away unexpectedly Saturday (Oct. 2, 2021) at home.

He was born on July 22, 1950, in Wellsville. He was the son of Charles and Joyce Sherrard Church. On Aug. 2, 1980, Mike married Dixie Lee at the Bolivar United Methodist Church. Mrs. Church survives.

Mike was a graduate of the Bolivar Central School, Class of 1969, and Alfred State College with an associate's degree in construction technology.

He was a self-employed building contractor for over 40 years. The last 10 years of his career he worked in campus construction management. He worked on school construction projects in schools throughout the Southern Tier.

He was a member and past president of the Bolivar Lions Club. He was an avid bowler and member of many leagues at the Bowl-O-Var Lanes. Mike attended the Bolivar United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Bolivar Richburg School Board from 1994-2012.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Andrew Church of Allegany; one daughter, Chelsea Church of Rochester; one sister, Charlotte (Bob) Mead of Alma; two brothers, Brian (Christine) Church of Sevierville, Tenn. and Barry (Janette) Church of Shinglehouse, Pa.; 23 nieces and nephews; and 33 great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 9, 2021) at the Bolivar United Methodist Church. Funeral service to follow at 1 p.m., with Rev David Herne and Father Robert Owczarczak officiating. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar.

Memorials may be made to SPCA of Allegany County, 5540 NY-19 Belmont, NY 14813; Alzheimer's Association; or the American Diabetes Association.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Schaffner Funeral Home Inc., Bolivar.
