CROSSVILLE, Tenn. - Daniel L. Gleason, 80, passed away on Jan. 10, 2022, at Advent Health in Ocala, Fla., following a brief illness.

He was born in Bolivar, N.Y., on July 31, 1941, the son of the late Burdette and Mary (Kalkhof) Gleason. On Sept. 6, 1962, in Olean, N.Y., he married his wife of 49 years, Patricia Piper, who predeceased him on April 13, 2012.

Dan graduated from Wellsville (N.Y.) High School in 1959. He was the plant manager for McCulloch Mite-E-Lite, in Wellsville, until it was sold to Black & Decker.

He then founded Employee Services in 1983. The organization began as a program that assisted employees who were struggling with substance abuse to get proper treatment and retain their employment. In 1985, Employee Services was incorporated, increasing services to include assistance for behavioral health, mental health, substance abuse and financial and legal problems.

Under Dan's leadership, the company grew while helping thousands of employees across the country and into Canada. Today, Employee Services helps tens of thousands of employees each year and is one of the nation's most comprehensive employee assistance programs.

Dan sold Employee Services, Inc. and retired in 2001, splitting his time between Crossville and Ocala.

He was an active athlete who also appreciated the arts. Dan enjoyed hiking, swimming, biking, playing cards with friends and attending plays at the Cumberland County Playhouse. He was also an avid pickle-ball player who loved competition.

He is survived by a brother, William (Beverly) Gleason; a sister, Jane (Dan) Hartman; a son, Lance (Marlene) Gleason; two grandchildren, Amanda (Brian) Preston and Steven Frungillo Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Serena (Damien) DaHill, Collin, Benjamin, Alexis, Brynn and Lydia Preston; a son-in-law, Steven Frungillo Sr.; and a dear friend, Cara White.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Melinda Frungillo; and a sister, Gail.

Friends are invited to a graveside service at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 22, 2022) in Woodlawn Cemetery, 276 S. Main St., in Wellsville. A celebration of life is being planned, and will be announced at a later date.
