David J. Andera

GREAT VALLEY - David J. Andera, 84, of Great Valley, passed away Sunday (Nov. 5, 2023) at Olean General Hospital.

He was born Jan. 7, 1939, in East Concord, son of the late Frank and Caroline Ploetz.

Dave was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served from 1956-1959, and upon returning home from his service, in 1960, he married the former Barbara Rockwell, who survives.

Dave had previously worked at Otis Steel in Ellicottville before operating his Andera family farm for many years. He was a proud dairy farmer and member of the agriculture community, as well as the Cattaraugus County Farm Bureau.

He also enjoyed the outdoors and being a life member of the Ellicottville Sportsman's Club, and a member of the Ellicottville American Legion as well as the First Baptist Church of Great Valley of which he attended for many years.

Besides his loving wife of 63 years, Mr. Andera is survived by two sons, David M. Andera of Great Valley and Daniel (Beth) Andera of Ellicottville; as well as a daughter, Janice (Clark) Elliott of Maples. Also surviving are three sisters, Helen Lincoln of East Otto, Carol Hansen of Gowanda and Joyce (Vic) Hines of Ohio. Dave is also survived by six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Dave is predeceased by two brothers, Francis and Phillip Andera; and a sister, Barbara Ellen.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 9, 2023) from the First Baptist Church in Great Valley.
