PORTVILLE - David Scott Fowler, formerly of Portville, passed away Sept. 24, 2018 in Baguio City, Philippines.
David was born on Dec. 29, 1973, in Olean, and was a son of Kenneth R. and Jaquelyn E. Kent Fowler. On Aug. 18, 2009, he married his loving wife, Rachel (Backeng Pangda) Fowler, who survives.
David was a 1992 graduate of Portville High School. He attended SUNY College of Technology at Alfred for two years, before joining the U.S. Army. David earned his bachelor degree in professional aeronautics from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
He served in the Army from April 24, 1996 to March 1, 2005. David attended basic training at Fort Rucker, Ala. David was an AH-64 Apache attack helicopter pilot and an instructor pilot. He was deployed to Bosnia and Kosovo.
After his deployment, David served as an attack helicopter instructor pilot, at Fort Rucker. He also trained in U.S. Military Officer Candidate School; Military Flight School; Instructor Pilot Course for multiple aircraft; Survival Course; Electronic Warfare Course; and he was overwater flight qualified. Following his service in the Army, he became a Department of the Army civilian instructor pilot in South Korea.
David worked for the Computer Sciences Corporation as a simulation device manager in Alabama, then he worked for Boeing as a simulation device Instructor, in Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. He currently was working for Advanced Electronics Company, as an instructor pilot, in Saudi Arabia.
David always believed the world was his playground and visited the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, the Czech Republic, Poland, France, Egypt, Jordan, China, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, South Korea, Indonesia, Italy, Thailand, Cambodia, Japan and the United Kingdom, but he always considered Portville home base.
Along with his loving wife, David is survived by his parents, Kenneth R. (who passed away Feb. 21, 2019) and Jaquelyn E. Fowler of Portville; a daughter and two sons, born to Melissa A. Smith Fowler, Abigail C. Fowler, Lance C. Fowler and Michael S. Fowler, all of Lancaster; a brother, Mark (Trish) Fowler of Shinglehouse, Pa. and Raymond (Diane) Fowler of Alta Vista, Kan.; and two sisters, Laurie (Steve) Boyer of Louisville, Ky., and Karen (David) VanHoutte of Clarence.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday (Feb. 25, 2019) at the Portville American Legion, 24 S. Main St., Portville, at which time a memorial service will be held. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, in Allegany. Full military honors will be accorded by the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892 Ritual Team.
