David F. Mattys

ALLEGANY - David F. Mattys, of 15 N. 7th St., affectionately known as "Dude" or "Matt," passed away Monday (Aug. 21, 2017) at the Cuba Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility.

Born March 1, 1941, in Olean, he was the son of Joseph P. and Elizabeth Kepler Mattys.

On May 9, 1964, at St. Bonaventure Church, he married Sally Ann Dieteman, who survives.

David was a 1959 graduate of Allegany High School, and then served with the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962.

He had been employed by the former Acme Electric in Allegany, then later was transferred to the Cuba facility. The business became Tracewell Co., and he retired on July 1, 2003.

He was a member of the St. Bonaventure Church and the Olean Elks Lodge 491. He enjoyed gardening and was instrumental in forming the St. Bonaventure coed softball league.

Surviving besides his wife are three children, Kimberly (Joseph) Dincher, of Odenton, Md., Joseph (Amy) Mattys, of Hinsdale and David Mattys, at home; seven grandchildren, Joseph Jr., Jennifer, Benjamin, Amanda, Nicole, Aarika and Jolee; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Megan; two nephews, Timmy and Shawn Sherwin; and many other nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Linda Sherwin and a nephew Dennis Sherwin.

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday (Aug. 25, 2017) at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 26, 2017) in the funeral home. The Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor of St. Mary of the Angels Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, with military honors being accorded by the Allegany American Legion Ritual Team.
