George L. Emerson
LITTLE VALLEY - George L. Emerson, 75, of Little Valley, passed away Wednesday (Dec. 15, 2021) at Salamanca Nursing Home and Rehab.
He was born June 5, 1946, in Olean, son of the late Edwin and Vida Baker-Williams Emerson.
When he was 17, George enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served from 1963 to 1966 in the Korean War. On June 25, 1966, in Ellicottville, George married the former Allie Schreiner, of Little Valley, who survives.
He and his wife, Allie, managed the former Holiday Haus in Ellicottville and George worked at many other local businesses, including Clark Brother's in Olean, Signore's in Ellicottville, the former Little Valley Materials, a salesman for Ashford Concrete, assistant manager for AutoZone in Salamanca and also drove shuttle for the Seneca Allegany Casino.
George was a member of the former Faith Baptist Church in Eddyville and was currently a member of the Valley View Baptist Church in Little Valley. He was also a member of the Little Valley VFW and American Legion. George also was a life member and served as vice president of the Little Valley Fire Department, and he also served on the Little Valley Zoning Board.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his son, Jordy, with whom he would tinker with vehicles. George was a NASCAR fan and car enthusiast, enjoying local car shows and cruise-in's and, in particular, was proud of his '66 yellow Charger. He also enjoyed spending time playing Reed's Marble Game with friends and enjoyed the outdoors and hunting.
Besides his loving wife of 55 years, George is survived by a son, Craig (Tammy) Emerson of Hampton, Va.; and a daughter, Lori Emerson of Salamanca. Also surviving are two sisters, Betty Moore and Rosie (Frank Ditcher) Harrington, both of Great Valley. George is also survived by three grandchildren, Kellie (Dylan Hopkins) McKee, Katie (Carlos Caiza) McKee and Joey Emerson. Also surviving is a great-grandchild, Chelsea Ann McKee-Caiza; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, George is predeceased by a son, Derek "Jordy" Emerson; and two brothers, Edwin "Bucky" Emerson and Robert Williams.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday (Dec. 22, 2021) from Valley View Baptist Church in Little Valley. Funeral services with military honors will be held immediately following the visitation, at noon, from the church.
Memorials may be made to the Valley View Baptist Church.
