Gregory Gallo Obituary
loving husband, father, and grandfather
OLEAN --- Gregory J. Gallo, of Olean, passed away peacefully Tuesday (March 5, 2024) at home after a long illness.
Greg was born March 15, 1956, in Salamanca. He was the son of the late Anthony Dominic and Hazel Mae Eck Gallo. On October 14, 1989, he married his lovely wife, the former Cheryl Slater, at St. Mary's Church in Salamanca.
Greg graduated from Salamanca High School in 1974, he then joined and served in the United States Navy. After the Navy, he attended Jamestown Community College. Greg went to work for Olean Wholesale as a truck driver, working there for 32 years.
Greg's passion was riding his motorcycle; when you saw Greg riding, Cheryl was usually with him. He was vice president of the Hinsdale American Legion Riders. He also enjoyed camping and NASCAR; his favorite drivers were Ernie Irvan and Kyle Bush. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends when he wasn't riding.
Greg is survived by his wife, Cheryl, of 38 years; his sons, Anthony Joseph Gallo of Olean and Kyle Gregory (Allison) Gallo of Oviedo, FL; his grandchildren, Anthony Jr., Bella, Grayson, and Adalynn; siblings Nancy (Bill) Brown of Maryland, Steve (Ping) Gallo of West Virginia, Chris (Sarah) Gallo of Salamanca, and sister-in-law Anne Gallo of Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony Dominic and Hazel Mae; a brother, Michael Gallo, and his dog, Charlie.
Friends and family will be received from 10am -12pm Saturday (March 16, 2024) at Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 East State St. Olean. Funeral services will begin at 12pm in the funeral home, with Bob Elliot officiating. The Allegany American Legion will accord full military honors. Burial will follow in Scotch Hill Union Cemetery in Farmington Township, Clarion County, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org/donate or to the Hinsdale American Legion Riders PO Box 334, Hinsdale, NY 14743.
